I wish we had full day kindergarten! Fiona is in JK as well, and 2 1/2 hours is just not long enough most days! School starts at 8:50 and ends at 11:20. It's not that I don't WANT to spend the day with her, I love when she has days off and vacation and whatnot...but 2 1/2 hours is just long enough to get really involved in a project or something and then have to cut it short...or enough time to do stuff that needs to be done, but no time for myself!
Oh I see your in Mississauga! Not too far from me, thats where DH works. Are the Halton Peel School boards changing over to full day? I know that the TDSB and TCDSB are both switching to full days in September 2013. My friend lives in Vaughan and her son only goes Mon and Wednesday and every second friday for half days. I couldn't believe the difference based on location in a relatively "small" area.
And yes it sounds like JK is the same as Pre-K in the states. Interesting. Our JK is not mandatory either, but I don't know many parents who don't send their kids. DD is a December baby so I debated it because she was only 3 when she started. I know the cutoff age changes (sometimes it's must be 4 by August etc. but here its must be 4 by December 31st) I'm glad I decided to do it though because she loves school now

My two older boys are in kindergarten & third grade. They start at 8:10 and end at 3:10. If they ride the bus (which they don't always do since we live less than a half of a mile away so I often take them) the bus gets to our house at 7:10 and they get home around 3:45. I think the bus just gets kids to school early so they could eat breakfast if they wanted to & bus riders are the last to be dismissed otherwise a 35 minute bus ride home or an hour bus ride there to drive half a mile would seem pretty silly.
