For the past week, off and on, I have had these spells where out of nowhere I feel like I can't catch my breath and my heart feels like its going to beat out of my chest. Sometimes I even start feeling lightheaded and dizzy like I'm going to pass out. When I asked my doctor about it, she said it probably had something to do with my blood pressure dropping (of course it wasn't happening when I was in so she had nothing to actually check). Well, starting yesterday at lunch, it started happening again. It even got to a point where my arms were getting tingly like they weren't getting good circulation or something. By that evening, I started having severe vomiting and diarrhea on top of that. This continued through the evening. This morning, the stomach issues had subsided but it was still having the other problems. Went to work and almost blacked out in a room with a patient. My coworkers made me go to the ER to get checked out. While there, my blood pressure was fine as was my heartrate. There was some protein in my urine and I'm definitely dehydrated (probably from my puke fest last night) but nothing else out of the ordinary. The dr told me I was just having anxiety attacks. I've never had anything like that but he also didn't do any sort of physical exam so I'm just not sure if I buy this diagnosis... Anyone ever have anything like this before?

yes! I have had similar episodes during all of my pregnancies but only one so far this time. I know that mine is anxiety attacks ... it's usually due to feeling like i can't breathe or i am short of breath- pregnancy can do that to you. It's very hard to deal with that feeling... your heart starts pounding and then you breathe faster to compensate which leads to an acid/base imbalance causing the tingling sensation... etc. It's so hard. I have to tell my husband when i feel that way so he can talk me into calming down and breathing slowly. It only happens when i am pregnant but i am very familiar with what you are describing! Hang in there!!!!

From personal experience, it definitely sounds like anxiety attacks to me, as well. Ditto Christy, in trying to find a way to breathe slowly and not freak out more over it. Focus on something calming, and not the million and one things that might have caused it!

I haven't had that problem yet with this pregnancy but I definitely had a lot of anxiety attacks during my first two pregnancies. They are the worst..

It sounds like anxiety attacks to me as well. I got them awful with the mirena and they were exactly what you are describing. A warm shower or bath always helps me.

Thanks ladies! The ER dr just acted like I was crazy and told me to take slow breaths through it...I was so aggravated I wanted to scream "I've been doing that! If that was working do you think I would be here?!"

Thanks for making me feel less crazy

I get anxiety attacks when my thyroid meds are off or during pregnancy. It is scary and nerve wracking. Both times ii lessened after the 20 wk mark but I know it continues for some all the way to delivery.
