I found a bundle online of Bummies and prefolds that go from NB to 30lbs. $166 (before shipping). I tell DH that this is the best package I could find without buying cheap-Os. He responded "I thought you said this was going to save us money." Apparently he thought this was going to be free.

tell him to suck it up..

break it down for him! It is a investment at the start, but over time it evens out.

Yea what she said. It hurts at first but not having to buy diapers later is awesome!

Lol he obviously has nooooooo clue... yeah. Sit down and go over the numbers with him. Does he think disposable diapers cost nothing? I think the average is like $2000 to disposable diaper a baby from newborn to potty learning.

My DH does not understand the whole long-term savings thing, either. He could pay $30 for a pack of 'sposies a week and not blink an eye because it's not a big chunk at once. Same thing with groceries. If we shopped every day and spent $30 it wouldn't bother him at all but $150 a week makes him complain all the way home. This is why we finally opened a joint account and I'm responsible for savings and household purchases.

I haven't broken down the numbers yet but just logically it saves money in the long run. I knew it was gna be an investment at first so the way I sold it to my husband was to buy one AIO'S a month and then make covers and buy prefolds. But then I started making them and it is saving even more money.

where do you get your patterns? I'm going to Joann's tonight to buy material to make my own wipes. I'm not going to buy a lot because we have t-shirts around here that I can cut and use, but I want SOME that are cute, lol.

I told my DH that my budget for getting what we need to successfully cloth diaper (to 30lbs) is 6 months of our disposable budget ($180). Alex, our son, is now about 30lbs and he is almost 2 years old. So, that is at LEAST 1 year of not buying ANY diapers for this one kid (saving $360). I also want to start Alex on cloth diapering as well because I want him to be potty trained by 2.5 years. So, I need cloth diapers for him for 6 months. We change him about every 4 hours. Roughly 4-5 times a day (excluding poopies, which adds changes, lol). We luck out that he RARELY gets diaper rashes so we can get away with longer stretches.

I would like to get covers for him that are 1 size to 45lbs...which are expensive, lol. It would help if I could make these instead.

GMD has some Cot'n Wrap diaper covers on sale right now. $4 off a cover and I really want to go ahead and get some since we just got tax$ but I have to go through my stash and figure out what else to get. I'm sure DH is going to be complaining but gotta get the sales while we can!

I started cloth to save money and now well it's an addiction. And I just love not running out. I should take a picture of just my nb stash.

I went back to the used store today and I got 2 more Bummis for 0-3 months that are snaps (only 1 snap on each side, though so not very difficult, lol).

That makes what I have for NB:

2 Snap Bummi covers
1Velcro Bummi cover
4 classic plastic slip on pants for 0-3.
total: $23
I think that's pretty good for 0-3? Now I just need to figure out the prefolds.

Update: DH told me to just go ahead and order what I wanted so that I would leave him alone about it, lol.

Cloth is the best thing we did. I've even overheard DH tell his buddy how much cheaper it is, plus there are no last minute middle of the night trips to the store to pick up diapers because you ran out. DH even grew to love prefolds. He was intimidated at first, but after awhile he would pick the prefolds first instead of the AIOs or pockets for changes. Best of all- kids in cloth tend to potty train a little earlier than those in disposables. Lily trained at 2.5 and Abri was 2.

That's pretty much what my DH said about it last night except he used less vocabulary. He just said "Ok! Ok! Ok! Ok!" I think that means OK but I'm not 100%.

I just bought my new material for reusable wipes and for making 2 more slings. I'm SOOOOO excited to start in on sewing my wipes!

DH told me I have to sell 2 of my 4 slings, lol. I'm not surprised. I'm offering them to my friends on Facebook for $25 a piece but if no one bites then I'll advertise them here
