So I just mentioned this in my other post, but I am having my official wedding in October in North Carolina. We are looking at cruises for our honeymoon. I have never taken one before! Pretty excited!!

So if you have taken one...

-Is there a cruise line you like? Why?

-Where was your favorite place you have gone?

-How much money did you bring/or would you bring for extra stuff that isn't included?

I wish I could help with this one, but I've never been on a cruise! Totally jealous! I'm sure you'll have an amazing time!

I've been on two Carnival cruises. They seem like a lifetime ago so I am no help with how much to bring. I loved both and my favorite port was Aruba and we also had a blast at Cozumel

We just got back from the Disney cruise from Galveston to Cozumel. It was obviously very family-oriented, but also had babysitting and adult stuff to do too. Cozumel was awesome, though we arranged our own snorkeling and driver. That was the biggest cost that wasn't included. On board, we had some misc expenses such as beer, gifts, and adult dinner out, but was probably less than $100 for all that. But we also found a deal where kids sail free, so that helped alot (not sure if you were taking the kids or not). Good luck!

We won't be taking the kids since it is our honeymoon, but that is good to know for future reference. DH is a HUGE Disney fan.. and if it were up to him, we would be taking a Disney cruise for our honeymoon. Not sure how I feel about that idea just yet lol. But I do know for sure that we will take one someday as a family so I am glad you had a good experience

We LOVE LOVE LOVE Royal Carribean. I cannot say one single bad thing about our experience. It was amazing.

We did a 12 day meditteranean cruise for our honeymoon.

We ended up charging about 1500 dollars on our cards while on the ship but ....we went above and beyond. We did a lot of drinking/gambling and buying gifts on board to bring home to everyone. We were just 23 and our first real trip together. It is completely possible to not spend anything over what you pay aside from tips. We just.....over indulged A LOT and I don't think 1500 is too crazy when you think of all the excursions we did.

Cruises are amazing. We hope to take our kids sometime soon. Friends have told me that carnival is really good for entertainment but the food is not that great. Just an FYI - I've never taken a carnival cruise aside from a possible Disney cruise in the future for the kids ...I don't think I'd ever go any other way than Royal Carribean.

I've taken several cruises in the past with royal carribean, carnival, princess. My fav was royal carribean by far. We took a Bahamas cruise for our honeymoon last year with carnival (royal didn't have the cruise I wanted for specific dates). My favorite place to go is CoCo Cay. It's a private island that royal carribean only ports. So beautiful. White beaches, hammocks, clear blue water. Just gorgeous!

Money...we spent less than 500$ in our last cruise. We were in a budget. We did allow ourselves an occasional drink (so expensive on the cruise boat) and we bought a wine package where we had a bottle if wine each night at dinner. And we went on one excursion. It's completely do-able to spend even less if you just want to stay on the boat or just walk around at each port. I've done that in the past too.

Keep us updated on your plans. How exciting!

I love cruises!! I went on a Royal Caribbean one when I was 11 with my family. I had fun and my parents didn't have anything negative to say about it. In college I went on a Norwegian cruise. It was awful. The locations we went to were great (Virgin Islands, Bahamas) but the service was bad. And a few years later that particular ship I was on was in the news for the boiler exploding and killing some crew members. For our honeymoon we went on a Princess cruise. Ah-mazing! We did spend a little more to get the balcony room and it was a 10 day to the southern Caribbean. We planned to spend our money on the excursions and made the choice to not get a lot of alcoholic drinks while at the casino or by the pool. We made friends with the other couple at our dinner table and took turns buying a bottle of wine for the table to share.

I love cruises!! DH has never been one, so we are looking at going on one maybe as our honeymoon after our 2nd "wedding" back home with family in a year or two (prob two, with baby pretty sure we'll be pushing it back).

Anyways, I've been on Carnival and Royal Carribean. Two different classes. Carnival is great for the budget. Its decent but not as opulent or higher end looking as Royal Carribean. Regardless though, both has great service. Carnival is a fun time...def more of a party feel...you see families too, but overall its a party boat. Royal Caribbean is a great time too, but more conservative without the party atmosphere.

In either case, everything is included except tips, alcohol and excursions. So it can be budget friendly. I hate excursions because they dump you in overpriced tourist traps, so I don't bother wasting my money. I will either stay on the boat relaxing, sunning and drinking it up or go exploring on my own at whatever port.

So decide what's important to you and budget accordingly. For DH and I, we wouldn't do excursions or buy souvenirs so I think we could plan for $1000-1500 in outside expenses on board and be just fine. Really its just the booze we'd be paying for, tips, maybe some spa services and pics (they have different photo background stations set up at night where you can take your official cruise photos).

Oh and I've done he 7 day Mexican Riviera, 4 day Ensenada (x3 separate times) and the 7 day Caribbean. Mexican Riviera was my fav. Ensenada is a party trip, nothing great to see, you go for the drinking. The Caribbean itself is OK, can't say I would ever go back to any one particular island for a whole trip. I'm dying to take a Mediterranean cruise, I love that part of the world.

So, after discussing it with DH he feels that we should take a trip on each cruise line just as a precaution to make sure we find the right one.

As much as he was hoping I would pick the Disney Cruise Line, I think I am leaning towards Royal Caribbean! There is a Bahamas cruise leaving the two days after our wedding date, and it is a 4 day. I think that will be a good first length cruise for us and that way we aren't gone for too long with a 4 month old baby being left with grandparents!

So, we are hoping to get it booked in a couple weeks as well as a two night stay in my first ever 5 star hotel for our wedding night and the next in North Carolina. Sooo excited!

Thanks for input!!

I also second Royal Caribbean. I have cruised 7 times and Drake went when he was 1 on our last one. Cruises are the best bang for your buck if you ask me since its lodging, travel, and food all in one. I have mostly done the eastern Caribbean but also parts of Mexico, Cozumel, and Bermuda. I think we usually take a couple hundred extra with us for tips and souvenirs and such and we sometimes end up with extra money. If we do excursions we prepay usually with the ship line. Cruise are amazing, I want to go again its been 2 years since my last one
