Ugh. I always get yelled at on Facebook whenever I point out that somebody's child is in their car seat incorrectly. I hate that new video on the news about the little girl sleeping until her favorite song comes on because her chest clip is down too low and the straps are too loose.

I had one friend tell me that their doctor loaded their daughter into the car seat and they trust a "PROFESSIONAL'S" opinion more. I told them that unless the pediatrician was a certified car seat tech that they had NO business putting their child into the car seat, especially because they did it wrong (chest clip was on the tummy).

At my daycare I see it ALL THE FRIKKIN TIME. I've offered to print up info sheets to put on display in our lobby about proper installation and placement but I got shot down. I always worry that I'm going to hear that one of our kids was in a car wreck and got ejected.

Honestly, all these things are in the manual too. Do people just not read those things? It is not like secret or hard to find info.

Thanks for sharing, the blog did have some good tips, I like the pinch test for strap tightness. I had been doing the "fit one finger under the chest harness" and I think it is often too tight, it can be too hard to snap her in and I have to loosen and then retighten every time!

No people do not read the manual, that is the main reason I always post things like this to my fb.

And what TOTALLY baffles me is that MANY times it is even STAMPED into the chest clip "place at armpit level". IT'S RIGHT THERE! RIGHT *THERE*!

@Shen7: Having to do that with my infant seat each time nearly drove me mad. I don't know if you're considering a new seat at any time but that's why I chose the Evenflo Symphony 65 e3 for the next stage. Well, one of the reasons. It has the front loosener/tightener tab so that I can loosen each time to let Alex out and then tighten him back in. DH thought this was a horrible idea but I pointed out that depending on what Alex is wearing each day the harness will need to be tightened to accommodate it. It's very quick. It also has an incredibly quick adjuster at the shoulders, no rethreading no nothing. Just push up and click. Sadly I cannot get another one of these because it will not fit in the middle with my son's seat on the side

It saddens me that people research more about nursery furniture or what baby bath tub to get than they do with carseats.

I have to say I did not know straps could not be submerged in water...DD is a puker so I have pit them in a bowl to soak them. I will be calling the manufacturer to get new ones! I don't remember reading that in the manual.

I had NO idea you shouldn't use the LATCH system with the seatbelt also. Need to go and unclip the seatbelt in my car!

Also check your car manual for your cars latch limits, because they do have weight limits.

Yeah, that's going to be the other nightmare for us soon :\ I don't think we can put two car seats on one latch hook. There are enough hooks for 2 car seats on the side seats but the middle seat will have to use the belt *sigh*
