With M, I had *just* recovered from severe post-blood-loss anemia after having a ruptured ectopic, so I was always being careful about iron!! With this one, I only had like 3 periods since having M, I had wonderful lactational amennorhea (sp?) No periods for a long time due to BFing so much. And my blood labs have been very good.

My anemia treatment plan is: take Floradix liquid iron (food based and non constipating!! All the mineral iron supps cause SEVERE constipation for me even the new "gentle" ones) in the morning with breakfast. No dairy or calcium supps in the morning. Calcium inhibits iron absorption. Citrus with breakfast, vitamin C helps iron absorption. I take calcium in the afternoon or evening. Also I try to eat plenty of red meat chicken liver is also a great food source of heme iron!

ME!ME!ME!

The iron supplements make me terrible ill, so I have tried to increase it with diet. Lots of Kale, Spinach, Chard, dried apricots and added meat back to my diet. I will find out March 13th at my Hematologist appt. if it is working. I can feel that it has dropped some. I have just slightly off/dizzy and tired lately so it may be inevitable that I have to take them.

I already have to supplement folic acid and Vit. D because both of those levels were almost alarmingly low but they don't mess with my digestive system the way the iron does.
