Just wondering what everyone does as a special Easter tradition (for those who celebrate). For years I have hosted a huge eye dying and hunt at the house. About 15 kids dying eggs and then running around outside for hundreds of eggs. It is crazy and fun. Not sure if I am up to it this year. I am thinking each child can invite two friends.
We dye eggs with DD. We didn't really start any of our own family traditions until last year bc we had spent Easter with my family every year. Last year, we started the tradition of having my family over to appetizers and hanging out early in the afternoon after church. My family always did Easter baskets with candy plus presents, kind of like Christmas, but on a smaller scale. So we do the same with DD. My family likes to get her Easter gifts, too, so they liked coming over and being able to do that. For dinner, we grill lamb and have potatoes and green beans with it. Yum. It will be pretty hectic this year bc we will be moving a week before Easter, but we will still find a way to make it all happen.
We do a day trip during the day since most of my family works at the same restaurant as I do. LOL It is one of the few days we all have off together.
This year we are going to the Franklin Insitute Science Museum to see their titanic exhibit and then we go home and do an easter egg hunt, exchange easter baskets with the kids and have a huge dinner. There is normally around 25-30 of us depending on which way the cousins blow regarding their inlaws and such. It's always a great time. =)
We always do Easter brunch with my family. We usually try to go to Mass in the morning, let the girls go through their Easter basket, and then we meet my parents and sister's family at one of the hotels nearby that do a big brunch spread. The last few years we've ended up in one of the small conference rooms at the hotel with just our group, so all the kids can run around the room without bothering other guests. After naps, we go to a family friend's house for an egg hunt and dinner.
We do mass, and big plastic Easter egg outside hunt(we usually still have snow around) and color eggs then have a large afternoon dinner/supper and all hang out! This is all with my husbands family! My baby will be the tenth grandchild with the oldest having turned five in January so it's wonderful chaos! Haha my siblings don't have kids and my brother won't be home from university in Fargo yet! So it will just be with DH fanily
We're secular but we still dye eggs and I dress DD up at take her out for a little egg hunt. Last year I also got her a little basket with some treats. This year I'll hide the basket like my mom always did. Finding the basket first thing in the morning was a huge deal. Though I probably will do it after breakfast so the kid won't start her day on candy, lol.
Eliza Rose, born 6/9/10 ...and getting a little brother for her birthday! Baby Henry Wilder, due 6/7/13
Just a thought you mamas whose grandmas used to do all the tradition!! Start your own in honor of them!! Such a nice way to celebrate a holiday!
Just a note that what you do as something small could be huge to your child. I have invited the same kids for years to our house on Good Friday to dye eggs. Found out some of the families this of coming here as their tradition I also have huge egg cookie cutters. I decorate a cookie with everyone's name. A small act. Our kids look forward to this every year.
Since both my grans have passed I picked up the torch on being the one everyone comes to. We hide DDs easter basket. Have a plastic easter egg hunt and I cook Easter dinner for all my family...parents n brothers n uncles. I also make a bunny cake. The day before easter we dye easter eggs and thanks to pinterest this year we will start planting jelly beans(to turn into big lollypops on easter morning) and we will do some easter crafts now that DD is getting old enough
