We got a decent return this year so we decided to get all the small but necessary baby items at once. DH's parents insist on buying the carseat (yay!) but we don't think we'll get many other gifts since this is our second baby. Since we had bedbugs last year we had to get rid of a lot of our baby gear, so today I picked up: a boppy pillow, a summer infant swaddleme, (had one with DD and loved it!) 3 thirsties fab fitted diapers, three thirsties covers, a pack of cloth wipes, a small wetbag, a changing table pad, and a breast pump replacement parts kit. Now all that's left is the really little stuff like a few packs of 'sposies for those first bleary nights and some lanolin for nursing. It feels so good to have it all done!
Yayyy for splurging! I've bought many baby items this past week. I did so much online shopping i don't even know what's coming anymore.. Lol! All I really need is clothes and diapers which I figured that's what we'll get the most at our shower. I also bought DS new shoes and clothes and got myself a coupes of dresses which are good for while I'm pregnant and once I'm not shopping makes me happy
We got our tax return last week and I have been so excited to shop.. now that I actually can I can't find the motivation to go buy anything! Haha, I will probably do that this weekend though. I feel so unprepared and we are about to enter the 3rd tri already!

Same here. I was so counting on our tax return to get some of the big stuff but DH screwed up his tax forms at his new employer and had next-to-no federal tax taken out. I could have killed him.
I hear ya. I am self employed and have to pay quarterlies. We are conservative so we generally have paid the correct amount (sometimes a little over). However, each year I am required to pay in 110% of the prior year's taxes in 4 equal quarterly payments (or at least this is what the account tells me). So this year even though I know I will work less (and therefore earn less) due to delivery, I have to pay in 2013 110% of our 2012 tax obligation. This will result in a large tax return for calendar year 2013 but a year of living on a lot less due to paying high quarterlies. Ugghh.
