I was just reading online and saw something about strep b testing done around 36 weeks to check for infections and they put a qtip in your butthole? Oh no I've never heard of that before and never got it done when pregnant with DS. Does anyone know about this? I don't want anyone touching my butthole! Lol I'm freaking out.

Lol I did have DS at 37 weeks so maybe that's why I never had the chance to get it? Idk can't wait to not be pregnant anymore so that people can stop touching my holes! Lol

I was tested with my first and second. It's actually just a quick wipe like swab, not real inasive at all! It's just if you're positive for strep b and then baby passes through baby might need antibiotics and it can be semi serious! Do you have casareans? Because they don't test for it if you do!

Yes, it's just a q-tip like swab that swipes around the vagina area, but does not go inside the vagina or the anus. Many women have the bacteria living in that area and it does not cause any problems for us. But if baby is infected during birth, it can cause serious infection. If you are positive, then antibiotics are used during labor to prevent transmission to the baby. And if you are a scheduled c-section, it is not done.

Hope that helps!

No csection a for me. Natural vaginal birth.

Thanks ladies, I feel better knowing they don't actually shove it in my butthole lol I'm guessing I never got one done with DS since I delivered 3 weeks early.

I remember getting it done. It literally took 2 seconds. Luckily it came back negative but I know it's very important to know if its positive so that they can start you on antibiotics before you deliver baby.

I had it done and tested positive. It's really no big deal. It's on par with wiping yourself with TP.

They'll just put an IV in you at the hospital to start the antibiotics. This is also where the eye goop comes into play. They don't want the chance that the strep will get in their eyes.

Also a note you can test negative at 36 weeks but be positive the next, you always have it present. There are cleanses you can do as well.

My midwives gave me the swab and had me do it myself in the privacy of the bathroom. It's no big deal at all, but it can be pretty serious if it's positive and you don't get antibiotics.

I also was given a swab and did it myself in the bathroom. It is honestly no big deal. It's not like a pap smear it is just a wipe on the opening. Don't worry!!!
