Hi ladies! My doc just called and said that I passed my glucose test (THANK GOD lol) HOWEVER, my iron is kinda low He recomended that I take an additional iron supplement along with my pre natal vitamins..Do any of you know how much is safe to take? I know that taking too much is very bad but I also don't want to take too little and want baby and I to get what we should be getting daily. Is anyone else having to take an additional iron supplement?

I take one Vitron-C once a day. I have low iron also and that is what my midwife told me to do. It's different than other iron supplements b/c it also has Vitamin C, which helps with absorption. Just don't have dairy or take any supplement with calcium within a couple of hours of taking your iron bc calcium blocks the absorption of iron. I'm pretty sure I am getting a good amount of iron now. I was feeling woozy a lot before and my energy was REALLY low. Since she started me on the iron in my first trimester, I have felt so much better. Hope you find what works for you!

I got the same call and my doctor told me I was anemic and had very very poor iron levels. She told me to take 300mg of Palafer (1 pill a day). I've actually noticed an increase in my energy since taking it!

Another supplement is hema-plex or floradix. I take hema plex and it upped my hemoglobin 1 whole point in 2 weeks. I'm just taking one a day for the remainder of the pregnancy.

I don't really have anything to add, my doc always ordered my iron pills into the pharmacy in previous pregnancies :/ But just wanted to say YAY on your glucose test! I took mine today. Doc said he should have the results by tomorrow so I am crossing my fingers that I passed!

Just make sure to take it with orange juice or some other 100% vit C source to help absorb the iron.

Just wondering if this is in addition to your prenatal? Fortunately my iron came back good at 26 week. The doc does have me taking prenatal vitamins though. They have 120 mg of Vitamin C and 27 mg of iron as well as everything added.

I would trust your doc on this. Since I am fine with the regular vitamin (which I often change out with a regular vitamin when I haven't used the bathroom for days ) I would think everyone's bodies just have different needs.
