Last night i ended up going to the er due to severe upper back and chest pain...the pain started radiating down through the top of my abdomen to about my belly button. and the pain in my abdomen was coming and going...i was so worried it was contractions and i'm only 26 weeks. ((side note- apparently if you *think* you are having any labor symptoms go to the hospital you are going to deliver at, not just a ambulatory care center where i went...i got ripped a new one for that)) anyways...i just didn't know what was wrong. i was in so much pain! nothing helped...i tried every position known to mankind, heating pad, cold pack, back rubs, took two baths, tylenol, tums, nothing the pain started around 1030 at night and was still pretty intense by 1230/1 so i called my dr and the dr oncall said just go to the er (didnt specify which one). i had blood work done and a chest xray, everything came back fine. so really no answers...didnt get home til 6am and only got 1.5 hrs of sleep. today i luckily already have a prenatal appt and i'm hoping my ob will have some answers! he is wonderful so i think he'll be able to help or offer some advice. but my God that pain was excrutiating it felt like a muscle spasm non stop in between my shoulder blades that went straight thru to my chest. then the upper abdomen pain felt like i was getting punched and it just felt like all of my insides were being pushed upwards. didn't help my little lady was kicking every so often right where the pain was. ((she also seemed less active the past couple days which was another concern)) Today is better, I was prescribed lortab (havent gotten them yet) and the pain has subsided. i can still feel it a bit but i can at least function now. i will update later this afternoon after my appt <3

anyone else experience anything like this??

Oh no! Could it be your gall bladder? When I was having issues with mine a few years ago it was the WORST pain I've ever had in my life and hurt all over my upper abdomen. All the muscles basically contracted for hours, after I would have an attack, I felt like I had done a million crunches. Being that things are so squished bc of the baby, it could be in a different spot (like more towards your back?), which is why it hurt all over? Just a thought, because that kind of reminded me of the pain I had with mine. And I know sometimes pregnancy can cause gall bladder issues. Hope you can figure it out and it doesn't happen again!!

yes! immediately after i told my ob he suggested that. everything he said made sense. he described the pain of a gallstone and it was exactly what i had experienced the night before. so tomorrow morning i'm going in for a sonogram to see if thats what it is. hopefully i don't need any surgery and just a change in diet will help. ugh, but yes it was such a horrible experience how are you doing now?

They took mine out, I had a bunch of gallstones & kept trying to pass them and they would get stuck in my bile duct, which was the most painful thing I have ever experienced. So, they said it was best to have it removed. If they do want you to have yours removed, it can wait until the baby is here, unless there's something really bad going on with it. But, because the pain eventually went away, it probably is ok. I had to wait like a month or so before it was out and the pain medicine they gave me did nothing, the attacks would last for hours. The doctor told me to avoid meat and greasy food, which helped. He said those things would irritate it and make me have an attack. As long as I didn't eat meat or anything greasy (which included eggs & cooked cheese for me), the pain stayed away.

Gallbladder as the other ladies mentioned
i had mine out on an emergency basis as i had a couple attacks and was awaiting results from an ultrasound with my doctor
it sucked but it was nice to not have those attacks anymore
i know fatty food can set it off something terribley

thanks so much ladies yes, it is in fact my gall bladder. I had a sonogram done this morning and they could see all the gall stones. To make matters worse, I had horrible food poisoning last night and today just feel awful. I can't catch a break! Anyways, I have to make an appt with a specialist soon. They won't remove it until after baby gets here but it may not need to be taken out, we will see. I cannot believe the ER didn't even mention it! Oh well, just glad to finally have some answers. My ob told me to stay away from fatty/greasy food which is fine with me if it means no more attacks. I don't need that stuff anyways (i will miss it though! lol)
