No matter the weight limit on the infant seat, I doubt very many people actually max out the weight -- unless you just stop carrying the seat around and take baby in and out like a convertible seat!
We continued to use the infant seat with DD until she grew out of it. We did stop carrying her in it and took her in and out, but we had already bought extra bases for it. I drove her to the babysitter and DH picked her up. We also had a 3rd base in my parents' car bc sometimes they would pick her up if DH had to work late. Using the infant seat and leaving it at the babysitter's with a base in every car saved us from having to have 3 different convertible car seats. It was easier to snap the infant seat in and out of the bases than to install and uninstall convertible seats.
We now have both the Keyfit and the B-Safe. DD used the Keyfit for the first year and a half and I love it. However, I hated the Chicco stroller that we bought with it. It was so bulky and huge. DD (3 years) now rides in a Britax Boulevard and I absolutely LOVE her car seat, so I decided to look at their travel systems this time around. I just bought the B Agile travel system that has the B-Safe infant carrier. When holding them, I can't really tell a difference in weight they feel pretty equal. I have noticed that the B-Safe is much harder to get off of the base than the Keyfit. It has something to do with the positioning of the button on the back. I just can't seem to get a good grip on the B-Safe to pull it up. I never had this problem with the Keyfit. I don't know if we will have problems with the straps tangling on the B-Safe since I haven't used it yet. I really don't think you can go wrong with either seat. They both are really nice.
We went with the Britax B-safe. I admit, its feels quite a bit heavier... but thats part of why I like it. I don't plan to haul her around in it b/c I prefer to baby-wear, but we will be driving 4000 miles before she is a month old and I love the safety reviews on the B-safe.
I got the Chicco Keyfit. I liked how padded it was and hot it snaps into the base...plus the handle fit comfortably in my hand.
The only feature I'm not digging is that it does not click or lock onto shopping carts like the graccos used to (don't know if they still do or not). They did this on purpose for safely reasons, but I'm never crashed a shopping cart while pushing my baby...so it seems a bit excessive.
You should NEVER ever lock a carseat on top of a shopping cart..
That being said no infant seat here, going straighter into a Graco 70.

We have the Chicco KeyFit travel system and though obviously we haven't used it with baby yet, we love it so far. The quality seems great, it looks comfy, and it's so easy to click in and out of the bases and stroller. Had great safety ratings, too, including side impact.
