Will you put onesies under your babies clothes this summer? This is probably a dumb question, but I don't know. What would you not put a onesie under?

To me, in my area, onesies ARE clothes. It is so dang hot here in the summer that I really try to minimize the layers. I may put some pants and socks on with a onesie but that's about it. Honestly, when we go out for walks and things outdoors in the summer, I usually do just a onesie and socks and then bring a light blanket to cover or wrap baby in.

Having had summer babies, my kiddos usually wear just onesies all summer. When the cooler weather hits I'll put a pair of pants on over the onesies, and a sweater on top. Usually when it's cooler I prefer to just put them in a sleeper, though.

Onesies are shirts nowadays not undershirts. And I would definitely not layer a baby in the summer.

Like the others said...onesies only in the summer. It's so hot, and babies turn into little furnaces.

Just had this discussion with DH. Bodhi will live in onsies until about Oct. here. It is waaaaaayyyyyyy too hot to layer. We will carry a swaddle blanket for the frigid inside temps.

I am going to use onesies for clothes most of the time too. I probably will layer onesies too, if the baby is going to wear a real outfit, especialy if the material is not soft or has scratchy seams.

One thing I remember about watching my grandmother with her great grandchildren (my niece and nephew) is the first thing she'd do when they'd start getting fussy is take off a layer of their clothes if they had more than one layer on. In the summer, they got down to their diaper if that's all there was. She always said that a hot baby is a really unhappy baby and sometimes that's all it is. I'll be doing the same as all the other ladies and just using onsies as clothes. Maybe a light skirt or pair of baby shorts for going to the store or something, but it gets hot and muggy here so I'm thinking minimal. When we're in the house and using the AC, though, I might put a tshirt or something over the onsie depending on how cool the house is at the moment.

We are going to have to wait and see. Summers here are unpredictable; we can have a week in the upper 90's and then a week that doesn't get out of the 60's. Even when it is hot during the day it can drop to the 40's at night. We do not have a/c so the house might be 80 degrees or might be just right.

I use onesies as clothes too. I have never put one under an outfit. I have a lot of onesies, rompers, and some pants to layer. We have a camp we go to a lot and it can get chilly there on the lake so I still have pants. We have weather where it can still be cold in the summer.

Yep onesies are pretty much clothes here too, but I prefer to have a onesie and pair of shorts on the kid if we are going out in public. At home I don't care. I don't use them as an undershirt

For the first couple of days the baby is learning to adjust to outside temperature. When I gave birth to Alex it was getting super hot out so we blasted the AC. Well, we made it so cold that he nearly froze to death and had to be swaddled in a big ol quilt until the house thawed out a bit, lol.

If it's chilly out I would stick with the rule of thumb "one layer than you yourself need" but if it's warm out then I would do "one less layer" and pack a thin blanket just in case the temperature dips.

Really, if you're cold the baby may be cold. If you're hot or warm or just fine then the baby is most likely, too

I was always told babies and old people need to wear one less layer than us when it's hot and one more layer when it's cold bc they get overheated and colder faster.
So buy cute onsies

My first thought with putting a onesie under clothes is what a pain in the butt it would be to change a diaper haha I've never put a onesie under any outfit unless it was a pair of pants or shorts. Other than that onesies are just regular clothes to us in the summer as well

It's so hot here during the summer that kiddo's entire summer wardrobe consists of only onesies. We have a few shorts here and there to go over, but otherwise... just onesies!
