This is where your OB/GYN uses their finger and inserts it into your partially opened cervix and forces the bag of waters to separate or move away from your cervix. It feels like a pap smear.

Anyway, they say it releases hormones in your body that may encourage the onset of labor. Sometimes they accidentally break your waters which will also kick start labor, lol.

No problem! It sounds more intrusive than it actually is. I had it done twice (in addition to two actual medical inductions). He's a stubborn baby, lol.

It can be uncomfortable but not too painful. I've had it done before. If it works, you'll start feeling crampy shortly after. I have heard that some OBs will do it without telling the patient if they are around 39 weeks. If you aren't comfortable having it done, I'd talk to your OB/midwife before cervical checks start. If you are past 40 weeks and a little dilated then it could be worth a try before trying for a medical induction with drugs

I have heard it called stripping the membranes. It was painful, but quick, and also worked for me. I had my 2nd baby 7 hrs after this was done
