Three weeks ago at my last appt, my bp was 136 (doc was not concerned), then at my appt yesterday it was 142, and he decided that I need additional testing done. This weekend I have to collect my urine for 24 hrs (and store it in the fridge in a huge container ) and then take it to the hospital lab, and also have additional blood work done while I am there. Then, I have to go back for another appt with my doc on Mon morning.

Anyone else having to do something like this?

Also, oddly... I gained weight like crazy until about 6 wks ago. I am up 35 lbs, but have not gained anything in 6 wks!! The doc said not to worry, since if I am measuring ok, then all is well with baby. I reminded my doctor that he has NOT measured me this entire pregnancy... He then said "oh, we start at 33 wks!!" yeah... ok... Usually I have a problem putting on too much weight, so I am happy that I have slowed down, but of course now I am worried about not gaining at all! I have cut back on snacking after dinner, due to heart burn, so I am hoping that I am losing "my" weight, and gaining "baby" weight, and just ending up balancing out??

What was your bottom bp number? That is your heart at rest which is the most concerning number. I had to do those 24 hour urines with David, it measures your protein in your urine. I've measured large this whole pregnancy but have only gained 12lbs so I'm no help there. I hope you get great results.

My blood pressure has crept up just recently, but all my doc said today was to take it easy til I see my new doc in a week. Good luck with the 24 hour urine. It's a pain, but it's a good indicator for what is going on. About the stop of weight gain, as long as your doctor is satisfied with the way the baby is growing, then I wouldn't worry about it. I've only gained 6lbs the whole pregnancy but the baby is actually measuring big, so I know she's growing just fine.

KUP!

I usually write down the bp readings, and yesterday i was in a bit of a tizzy and forgot the bottom number before I could write it down! I *think* it was 142/80, and I know for sure 3 wks ago it was 136/76.

I think they are just being cautious since it can creep up. But certain times during the day it can be higher and a lot depends on what you are doing before it is taken. Mine was 120/80 at my last appointment but has been that the whole time with no swelling or protein in my dip urine. Have you had any protein in your urine test before this?

Pregnancy induced hypertension also has guidelines of (normally) having a BP of 140/90 starting after 20 weeks gestation so it sounds like you're just now reaching the 140. Sounds like your doc is being super cautious - which is good! Hopefully your urine won't show any protein and next appointment your BP will be back down!

Wishing you good luck on your test results. Pre-eclampsia can be dangerous so they are being cautious. Hopefully all will turn out well.

I wouldn't worry about the weight if the doc is okay with it. I've gained 15 total but nothing at all in 5 weeks and my doc said yesterday that my weight looked perfect and I was measuring text book for an average sized baby. He guessed he would be a 8 to 8 1/2 lb baby based off what DS was. If you were measuring small or baby showed signs of stress or not thriving they'd def let you know.

Thank you all for the responses
They have never mentioned me having protein in my urine before, so I don't think it has ever been a problem before.
I will keep you all updated. I will know more on monday when I go back in!

i had the exact thing with DS
they did the 24 hr urine thing to rule out pre-eclempsia
did the blookwork
for me nothing came back abnormal, just high bp
i ended up being induced five days before my due date because of it
good luck!!

Yep. Last week I had go do another 24hr urine which was the same as 3wks ago. 24hr urine is more accurate than the dip stick they do. All my labs came back normal too so they just said my high bp was pih and not pre-eclampsia. I also gained 35lbs but haven't gained anything for 5wks. They are more concerned with a sudden weight gain than no weight gain.

Update!
My appt today was good. My urine test and blood labs came back perfectly normal, and my bp today was actually 124/77. I am going back in one wk for another check up, just to keep a close eye. Thank you again for your input everone
