We did it with Connor, and would have done it again if this were a boy. Surprisingly enough, insurance covered it when we had it done. I don't remember what the initial cost is but something like $400 sounds about right.
I agree with the others as far as cleaning and care, make sure it's slathered in vaseline so it doesn't stick to a diaper, and it doesn't need harsh cleaning. Connor's was done in the hospital the day after as well and had zero problems, it was very quick.
i had it done with DS
no issues, i recommend the tubes of vaseline, much easier to squeeze it on then to glob it on your finger to get on top of his dink
I believe we had to do for a week and he was good to go, no baths until that time though, just sponge bathed
if this next baby was a boy we'd get him circ'd as well
I was on Medicaid when Gabriel was born. It didn't cover circumcision, so we paid for it out of pocket. It was $300.00 and done a week after birth at our pediatrician's office. If you have traditional insurance when you give birth, you can do it while you are still in the hospital but if you qualify for Medicaid ABSOLUTELY double check to make sure it is covered, otherwise you are going to need to pay for it out of pocket and it might be less to have the pediatrician do it at your first appointment.
As far as the healing, he didn't even flinch while it was being done. Not a peep or cry. I, on the other hand, nearly frickin' fainted and had to leave the room and DH stayed with him while the doctor finished it. We just kept it covered with Vaseline and some gauze, I think and it healed fairly quickly. (Like a week, I think)
JaxonJocelyn Gabriel Grayson and due in September!
We're getting Coy circ'd. But, we are going to wait a week or more because we're declining the vit k shot, and I want him to build up his own and I'd like to get breastfeeding initiated before all that. Plus, most dr's circ with what they call a "loose" circ... and that's not what we want, so we will be going to a specialist that my pediatrician has suggested.
