When I was little, my mom told me that on May Day you pick flowers for your mommy. I didn't know anything else about May Day until I was older, and realized that I'm the only person that I know who even does anything for it...but it always stuck with me that you pick flowers for Mommy that day. Now that I live far away from my mom, I always try to send her flowers, or at least a card, and it makes her so happy that I always remember. I've passed this tradition down to my daughter, and this morning she went out into the garden and picked me a little bouquet of pretty periwinkles. I can't tell you how happy this made me.

Does anyone else do anything for May Day?

I've never heard about it! But I like the idea and I think I should get DD in on this so I can get flowers from her

As a child on May Day you made up small baskets of goodies (Mayday baskets) and left them on peoples front doors and you basically knocked and ran so they opened up their door to find a few goodies from a stranger. I always loved that little random acts of paying it forward.
When DD is a little older I will show her how to make mayday baskets using construction paper and weaving, decorate with flowers and fill with a handful of goodies.

I've never heard about it. I really like both ideas, though! I'll have to pick one and try to make it tradition

As kids we a always made baskets and knocked on our grandparents doors and left baskets for them. This year my daughter left a basket on my bedroom door for me next year I will make baskets and either go to the nursing home and visit the folks or deliver baskets to neighbors and grandparents
