As of lately I have stated experiencing REALLY bad heartburn that seems to last most of the day and well into the night....I have taken tums but it doesn't seem to help much...does anyone have any suggestions of any other way to "put out the fire?" lol
I take a zantac at night and occasionally once during the day. It's safe to use as directed (one tablet, twice a day). Unfortunately my heartburn has gotten so bad that I have to still take tums, but it definitely helps. Another one that you can take is Pepcid complete, I believe. I'd double check with your doc just in case.
As for how to help, try to stay away from acidic foods - coffee, chocolate, etc. Try small meals more frequently and sit up for at least 3 hours after eating. I sound like a doctor's office pamphlet. hah.
My doc put me on Pepcid Complete when I was 4 months pregnant. I've been taking 2 chewables every night since. Honestly, there are still times when I need to pop a couple Tums. My doc says not to take Tums too much with the Pepcid though.
I take zantac twice a day as well (and have for about 2 months now). I get the cooling effect one and it works almost immediately. It starts to wear off inbetween doses but even when it does, the heartburn isn't as unbearable as it is without it
