It is really easy. They will hook you up to two monitor while you either sit in a reclining chair or lay on a bed. They will monitor movement and fetal heart rate (mine did not monitor contractions). They want to see a good baseline between 120 and 160. They also want to see some accelerations (heart rate increase above normal) when there is movement. You are likely to be given a button to push to record movement. You only need someone with you if you want company.
Just so you do not worry. A child has sleep wake cycles. Ellianna is a real wiggler. Of course today she did not move the first 20 minutes. They used a buzzer to get her to start moving in order to view the accelerations. Do not worry if they do this. It is common. They simply do not have 2 hours to monitor you. They use a loud noise to wake the child. It is completely safe. It does not mean anything is wrong. If something would be wrong, they will run in really fast. I am certain you will be great.
