I have been having the worst crampy, stabbing pains in my cervix for days. In addition I've had mild menstrual-like cramping (nothing regular or contraction-like, just achiness).

Now, the "HOLY @#$%! I'M READY TO BE DONE BEING PREGNANT" part of me is hoping maybe this could mean she's engaged and my cervix is thinning/dilating a bit. Also since my OB is going to sweep my membranes at 39 weeks and I've read that it's more successful if you're already a little dilated/effaced I'm hoping that's the case.

Could that be it? Or is this just baby pressing on my cervix/nerves/etc, and nothing to get excited by?

Opinions?

I've been feeling this way for a couple weeks. 2 appointments ago, I found out he's engaged. At my last appointment I found out I was 80-90% thinned out and 1 cm dilated. Today I was feeling like this again, with a couple contractions (that went away, so boo), so I'm wondering if I've made more progress. So it's quite possible you've made progress as well

I've been having a lot of those same pains. My midwife doesn't seem overly concerned. I mentioned it and she just kind of nodded and said "Yep, that happens." She apparently doesn't plan on doing a cervical check unless I go over 40 weeks, so I have no idea if I'm dilating or not, but with DD I was dilated 2 cm for the last month, and I had those same shooting pains.

For me at least, I think it's progress, but I don't think it's kickstarting labour or anything like that.

I have been feeling the same way. I have on and off menstrual like cramps in my belly and back....I'm pretty sure some are BH contractions. Others are just aches. And I m constantly feeling like someone just kicked me in my hoo hah or baby is pushing down so hard I have to clench to keep him in. I was 70% effaced a week ago, and I go again tomorrow and am hoping I'm even more effaced and starting to dilate!

I have been getting those pains for a few weeks and I was starting to efface. So maybe you are making some progress
