Yesterday I came across many news articles speaking about how Similac infant formula has GMOs in it And THEN to make matters worse they say that anything soy based is bad...AND that the DHA and ARA are not what they claim and are also GMO'd. I am definatly going to try to breast feed but if my little one doesnt take to the breast (like my first born) then I will have to use formula..Its not just Similac brand either, its EVERY kind..they have all GMOs in them....sighhhh..is there ANY formula that is safe for baby, and if so, what is it?

Based on the tiny amount of research I've done, it looks like there are a couple of recommended organic formula brands that contain no GMOs.

I'm just so glad I was able to help you out. I actually used to work in a grocery store that sold Earth's Best products, though I don't recall if they carried the formula.

What's a GMO? I used Similac with DD and had no problems at all.

Unfortunately not all moms can breast feed. Some have nipple problems or supply problems or medical problems and end up having to use formula whether they want to or not. And statements like this really make those moms who have problems feel extra crappy and guilty that they couldn't breast feed. Just sayin.

Thanks Lyndsay.

sorry if it makes them feel guilty. I will stand by nursing over formula feeding anytime of day. the percent of moms that can not truly nurse is less then 2%.
Nipple/supply issues are very easy to over come.
Medical problems is a different story, but there is also donor milk out there.

Oh boy. Let's just agree that no matter which way we feed our babies that the MOST IMPORTANT thing is that we're feeding our babies. Nobody here is advocating nourishing our babies with song, dance, and dirt.

GMO just stands for Genetically Modified Organism. Most everything we eat today in the US has been genetically modified in some way. Crops are specifically bred to be resistant to certain diseases and pests. GMO's aren't necessarily bad for you in all cases. While it's unclear what the longterm environmental impact of such crops would be, they really dont pose much of an immediate health risk in most cases. I will say though that Monsanto is a big scary company that does do a lot of stuff that is NOT cool. It's mainly their pesticides and herbicides that scare me, not the GMOs.

My husband is a crop scientist, so plant genetics and chemistry are his thing. Well, they were.. Now he's applying to med school.
