Hey ladies, so I've been EBF baby Ariana since she was born, it's been going amazing. However she usually only feeds for about 8 minutes sometimes longer but usually always around 8 minutes. She seems to be content though, I'm just wondering is that long enough? I know the lactation consultant told me she will stop feeding once she's full. But I'm wondering is she really full or a lazy eater?? However I must say my milk comes out pretty fast. I can pump a whole 2 ounces writhing 6 minutes and I know babies suck a lot harder than a pump does. Any experiences or advise is greatly appreciated. Thank you

I'm no expert, but Connor used to be a "fast eater" also. I made sure to keep him on the same breast to make sure he was getting enough hindmilk. I also had a really fast letdown. If he would want to nurse back to back, I sometimes put him on the same breast twice (for the hindmilk). As long as she is gaining weight, there's nothing to be concerned about, time isn't a concern as long as baby is feeling content and full!

Yes same here, I keep her on the same breast and she's usually done within 8-10 minutes. And seems very content when she's done, I even try putting the boob back in her mouth and she won't suck anymore so I'm guessing she's a fast eater as well. Btw she does suck for the 8 minutes straight, doesn't stop. At her one week check up she hadn't gained any weight but she hadn't lost any either. Dr said it was normal and that it could take up to 2 weeks for her to gain back her birth weight. I guess I'm just worrying for no reason lol. Thank you so much for your help, makes me feel better

I had the same concerns with my girl. She will only suck for a few minutes on and off and then fall asleep. She was CONSTANTLY waking up cranky and cueing like she was starving. I was really nervous that she wasn't getting enough, but she had her first doctor appointment yesterday and she's already 3 ounces over her birth weight at 6 days old. I would also recommend keeping her on the same breast for 2 feedings in a row to ensure she is getting hindmilk. I don't know about you, but I can tell pretty easily by feel how much milk she has gotten from one breast. If it still feels pretty full I will give her the same one again. If it is soft, I offer the other one. I'm sure Ariana is doing fine. I have to say, getting a weight yesterday was a huge relief for me. Maybe that would help you?

Her appointment was Monday, maybe I'll weigh her again today to see if she's gained a couple ounces. I do keep her on the same breast and if she stops eating i'lll burp her and see if she wants to eat more, sometimes she does and sometimes she doesn't but I do offer the same breast again. Thank you so much for your help.

She sounds perfect.. BM babies know when to stop, when they are full. As long as she getting what she needs, she will be good

It is difficult but amazing in the beginning. It amazes me that they know to go to the breast and they know how to stimulate it to produce the milk. our bodies are amazing!

You already got great advice so I won't add to that but sounds like breastfeeding is going great! Some babies are just quick eaters, others are slow and like to comfort suck etc. they're all different and there's no real standard of what you should be doing. As long as baby is content and full that's all that matters. As they say watch the baby not the clock

My son only breastfeeds for a few minutes, but the nurse weighed him after feeding and he had gained an oz. I wouldn't worry too much unless you are not getting any wet or poopy diapers.
