TMI Alert...sorry.

Ok, so I'm 5 days PP right now, and went #2 a couple of days ago, but I felt like I was straining to make it happen and I don't want to give myself hemorrhoids. I feel like I need to go, but nothing is happening. I've been drinking tons of water, so that's good, though I could probably stand to up my fiber intake.

I have some stool softeners (Docusate Calcium) because I figured that would be better than using a laxative. But it says on the box not to use if pregnant or breastfeeding.

Is this one of those things that I'm absolutely not supposed to take while breastfeeding, or is it just one of those liability things where they're just covering their butts by putting that disclaimer on the box? Has anyone else taken stool softeners?

My nurse in the hospital told me that I could continue to take Colace once I got home if I needed to.

I have been constipated since giving birth. Colace was not helping me. My doc said Milk of Magnesia was ok. I took it once and it helped me a lot. I may need it again though.

I was given Colace in the hospital already and took it for like a month when I got home. It's definitely safe to use. It works well, too!
