I feel like I haven't been on here in forever! I haven't been reading many posts so I feel lost on everyone's stories. I have a lot I want to share and some questions I'm hoping some of you can answer.

Breastfeeding/ Pumping: My little guy is a big eater and I am not producing enough milk. I breastfeed and/or pump every 3(ish) hours, but this doesn't satisfy him. I've been feeding from both breasts, then giving him a bit of formula until he's satisfied. I really want to breastfeed and will continue to do so, but I don't feel bad about supplementing with a little formula. I would love to hear some advice from you about how to increase supply, how often to pump, any thing to help out. Thanks in advance!

I loaded up at the hospital! You wouldn't believe the amount of diapers, wipes, lanolin, paci's, t-shirts, burp clothes, etc that we came home with. All of the nurses were fantastic! We were treated so well.

Doc said, "You're tight. I'm going to help you..." I had an episiotomy and obviously have stitches down there. That area has been pretty miserable ever since. I haven't been brave enough to look, but it feels awful. So sore. I still have trouble standing and sitting. My butt hole feels so bad and I feel pressure in it a lot. The first poo? Omg. That was something I'll never forget. Question: Why do I feel the pressure??

The girls Well, they're just huge.

PP Weight I hate to brag, but I'm still going to. I weigh 13lb less than I did BEFORE getting pregnant. Pretty neat.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some questions I wanted to ask. I'll just update this post when it comes to mind.

Is your milk in?

I'm assuming it is. Him feeding so much is normal and there is no need for formula. What he is doing is increasing your supply. It's called cluster feeding and it's very normal at this stage. The pump is not an indicator on your supply. The baby is much more efficient than the pump and it takes awhile to respond to it. Continuing to feed on demand will help make your supply more concrete and then Eli will chill a bit until his first growth spurt at 7-10 days of life. Growth spurts last about a day or two and they constantly feed again. As long as he is pooping and peeing normally he is getting enough.

Pressure is part of healing it should feel better soon. Yuck on the cut Hun I'm sorry!

I was just going to ask the same thing, because Arthur was born on a Wednesday, and my milk didn't come in until that Sunday.

Milk is in. Pediatrician is the one who suggested giving some formula.
He sucks for 15-20 mins on each. When I pump, it's for 15. And I get 1/2 oz. He would never calm down if I didn't give him some. After he breastfeeds, he just cries and tries to find something to suck.

Try seeing if he will stay longer on one breast. He may not be getting to the hind milk before switching. The hind milk is where the fat is at. Even if he lets to offer him the same breast. Babies love to suck so its not necessarily a supply issue. And sadly not knocking your ped or you for giving him formula, some peds don't know a lot about breastfeeding or how it works. You are doing great and for the same time of pumping 1/2 an ounce is amazing, nothing wrong with your supply.

What does his poop look like?

He has the yellowish green seedy poo

I've tried letting him suck at each for 30 mins. He still acts starved after.

Here are some great things to read.
http://kellymom.com/bf/normal/newborn-nursing/
http://kellymom.com/parenting/parent...fussy-evening/

The yellow is good, green is normal but also indicate he may not be getting enough hind milk. So what I would do is block feed and see if it helps. Block feeds mean you feed on one side for a few feeds then switch. It may help get him to that fatty more filling milk. But all he is doing is very normal newborn behavior.

Let him feed that break to get him to burp then feed again. Your body will produce enough for him have faith. He will not starve. Also make sure you are super relaxed when you feed/pump. Drink a tonof water like a huge tumbler each feeding plus more. Eat oatmeal. Feed him then pump after each time.

Breastfeeding is something I'm struggling with too. My lactation Consultant says to make sure I'm either pumping or feeding every 2-3 hours. Leif is losing weight. So I have to supplement with formula. Leif isn't satisfied either after breastfeeding. The LC thinks I have low supply so that why she suggesting I stimulate breast every 2-3 hrs by pump or feed. I also started taking fenugreek and started to eat oatmeal.

Have you tried pumping to see how much you're getting? Just curious. Sounds like we are in the same situation.

Steph- I hope the supplements work to increase supply! Also check out the breast feeding board on JM. There are some recipes for monster cookies that can also help (and they're delicious).

As for a newborn's need to suck- that is normal. The first couple of weeks, get comfy on the couch and nurse, nurse, nurse. Skin to skin contact is also great. If baby is not losing weight and has plenty of wet/dirty diapers, you don't need to supplement.

Breastfeeding - (I am typing this while bf - so please excuse typos ) - Ellianne nurses sometimes every 90 minutes. Tjere are times in the day she goes 3 hours but there are cluster feeds in the evening and throughout the night.

Bottom - Minw hurt for 1-2 weeks with my first. Try warm compresses if you can. It aids healing. Try to avoid stairs. Wish I had a cure.

The girls - Enjoy now. Mine are much larger even right after nursing. Experience tells me though that it will go away.

Have lots of fun with Eli - they grow oh so fast.

I would recommend using formula only until you can pump enough to supplement with your breast milk. If the baby gets a bottle you should be pumping. In the beginning I did 15 min but quickly switched to 20-25 minutes every 2 hours for about a week. I'm EPing. The extra time really made a difference in my supply.

Breast milk has more calories than formula. I use formula to thicken the breast milk and increase the calorie count. If I was just using formula I would have to thicken it even more.

I also recommend fenugreek, 3 tablets 3 times a day, a cup of mother's milk tea in the morning and evening, and tossing milled flaxseed in your cereal/yogurt/whatever (1 to 2 T per day). Doing that for one week along with longer pumping sessions boosted my supply so much that I could switch to pumping every 3-4hours and still make enough.

Ouch - OK, I am the lady who goes to get measured and am told that I am an "almost" B The year after delivery is the one time I can wear a dress and fill out the top part.

I was also told no baths for 6 weeks. I waited 2 and then just made sure that the tub was extra clean and that I soaked in plain water. It felt sooooo good.

Herbal baths helped me heal. I think it's the reason my bleeding stopped completely by the end of the first week.

lol before i got pregnant with Alex I was barely an A cup. Then my bras were getting too tight and cutting into me. So I get measured. I was a D almost a DD. I was so ecstatic that i posted it as my status on facebook and then went into work yelling at all my co-workers "I'M A D! A DEEEEE!!!!"

Then the first 3 months of breastfeeding I was a DD and they looked AMAAAAZING. Then things stabilized and I lost them...but I just went to a B/C I'll take it!
