now that the mastitis symptoms have faded, I think I may be developing a case of thrush. grrr. I've started with itching and a little redness around the nipple. I'm trying not to let all of this discourage me from breastfeeding. does anyone have experience with thrush? is it a pain to get rid of? it just sounds difficult.

No you usually just need nystatin and you rub it on your nipples. It's usually caused by antibiotics. I know some people have good results with gentian violet, which is extremely messy and turns everything purple but works.

Usually it's best to treat both you and baby at the same time or else you just pass it back and forth

I called his ped office and spoke to his Dr this morning since they are in on weekend mornings. I told her how I was being treated for mastitis, and about my symptoms. I told her that I don't really see anything in his mouth and how he's been really fussy for two days. She says she wouldn't treat him without seeing white in his mouth. So from what she told me, looks like even if I do get treated, unless he has white in his mouth they won't treat him. So I will call my Dr. tomorrow. It hasn't gotten worse since yesterday. It's basically just my nipples are pink and feel raw/irritated and sometimes itchy. And I use a nipple shield so it shouldn't be from breastfeeding irritation.
