Looks like it to me too. Can you get in to see an ENT?

I have an appointment this Friday for Rowan's baby well visit with the LC. I had asked a pediatrician at the last one whether it was a lip tie. He said it was down more but that usually those break on their own like when they get busted in the face with a ball. I'd rather have it clipped, lol. We'll see what the LC thinks and then off to the dentist, probably.

It could be. Kiefer's looked like that but we were told to just leave and it would separate on its own. Sure enough, it drew up slightly over time and when he was about 18 months old he fell and hit his mouth. Knocked out his front tooth and tore the lip tie completely. Not an ideal situation IMO.

Of course, it never affected his eating or his speech...I would do exactly what your doing. Never hurts to get a couple different opinions. But coming from a mom who got to witness the forceful tearing of that due to injury, I would get it clipped before dealing with that again.

I am a lactation consultant and I would suggest you see ENT if you are breastfeeding because it can cause problems, if you aren't breastfeeding then it wont be much of an issue yet.

Definitely trying to breastfeed! lol I've been EPing ever since Rory was born due to a weak latch and being a sleepy baby. He lost too much weight (born 6lb 4oz, down to 5lb 10oz at the lowest) in the beginning and was too slow in gaining it back simply because he wouldn't wake up. Nothing woke this kid up. We literally had to palpitate the bottle nipple in his mouth and pour it down his throat. We did syringes in the beginning but they wanted him to suck and gulp.

Now he is waking up and actually asking to be fed. He's eating about 18-20oz a day (more towards 18 oz, but 20 oz on an awesome day). When he is very alert and anxious to eat I try to breastfeed him but while the latch is good he doesn't have a strong suck and clicks on the bottle and breast. That's what made me take another look at his upper lip. The tongue is down, sometimes it curls up but at least with the bottle I can see that is down and at his lower gum.

Unfortunately, nothing will help tremendously until it is clipped, and if the tongue is down, that may be a tongue tie as well. Continue to pump until you have it looked at if they clip it, you can find a good lactation consultant to help you with latching. I see you are from Ohio. I have a lot of lactation consultant colleagues from the Cincinnati area. If you would like I can get your their information and or ask them for a good ENT that supports breastfeeding.

I asked some of my colleagues from Ohio who would clip a tongue or lip tie and this was the response. HTH!

"North of Cincinnati in a small town called Beavercreek, there is a VERY well respected dentist that will clip. His name is Dr. Notesteine (sp). His sister is an IBCLC, and he does breastfeeding conferences."

Okay, thank you! Our pediatrician's office has a LC and that is who I am going to see on Friday. I'll ask her if she has referred to Dr. Notesteine before. If this has been the issue all along I will be so relieved. It seems like a much easier thing to bounce back from than a lazy baby, lol.
