Rowan is now 7lb .5oz. I was thrilled, but this is actually very bad. He is 4 weeks 4 days old and is gaining significantly less than an ounce a day. He is still very resistant to feedings and refuses to eat a normal portion for his height/weight. He does not exhibit the rooting reflex and his requests to eat are far between. He also gets tired way too easily. They checked his heart and oxygen levels and everything is fine. I have another appointment Monday and they're going to review everything and I'm pretty sure we'll be referred to a specialist. Breastfeeding is still out of the picture.

Keep us posted Hun. I am so sorry things are so difficult. There has to be a reason he does not wake to eat. I hope they find it soon!

I'm sorry. I can totally relate though. Jocelyn still has no rooting reflex. She wasn't gaining either and after pumping for a month and having to add formula to all her feeds, I couldn't keep up. She is "slow to gain" and in a months time she only gained 12 ounces. They said she looks good though and all my kids are petite and have been slow growers.

I hope they can help. I'll be sending growth vibes your way.

Had our appointment and got mixed news. He is up to 7lb4 oz but because his weight gain has been so erratic and because his suck/swallow reflex is not maturing as it should (and he can't lift his head up yet) we're being referred to a few specialists.

The first one will be with a Gastro-something, lol to find out if it is a digestive issue. The second one will be with a neurologist to find out if it is a muscular issue or a wiring-went-wrong. The pediatrician wants to rule out the more serious things (which she thinks is very likely) in order to narrow it all down to what she suspects is going wrong. She thinks he has weak oral muscles and will benefit from speech occupation therapy. She just wants to do it this way because it can take a long time to get in to see these specialists and she doesn't want us to lose time.

Yes, definitely! I felt much better when she handed me the specialist list.
