When baby's cord falls off, does it normally all come off? Is it normal to leave a little scab? Eli's fell off a few days ago, but a little piece is still there so that it looks like a scab covering his button.

Payson's did that because she has an outie. It should all dry out and start flaking off.

Tristans did the same thing and little bits of scab keep falling off on his also. I've already given him a few baths also. His skin was just so horribly dry he needed a bath to help get some of that flaky skin off.

Amelia's did that... left a little scab. She's got an outtie, and it took a few days for the final scab to flake away. Yes, I gave her a bath as soon as the stump was off!

Is what's left dry? If it is, it will just fall off. Lena's fell off and some was left, but it was oozy. The dr put silver nitrate (I think that's what it was... silver something anyway) and that dried up in the next couple of days. If it's dry, it should be fine.

Mirabelle's did that too. I gave her a bath after the main part fell off. The scab thing was there for another couple of weeks!

Ditto for Anna. Most came off but some scab was left. We happened to have an appt the next day and the doc said it was fine to give her a real bath and gently remove the scabs if the come off easily. Anna still had a scab up until a few days ago and we've been bathing her for weeks.

Both of the boys still has small scabs after theirs fell off. We went ahead and bathed them as the pedi said it was normal for a small scab to be left.

DD had a small scab for a week or so after the stump fell off. The nurse at the hospital said to bathe her after the stump fell off, so we did. Then at the ped's office he said to wait until the scab fell off but we had already bathed her a couple of times. Oh well. It's fine now.
