So I think it's finally happening. My beloved Medela Freestyle is going out on me. This morning, the pull on me was really weak at the highest setting (where I always set it) and for some turns of the motor, it didn't pull at all. I suppose I can't complain. I did the math and, at a conservative estimate, it pumped 480 hours when I was EPing for Anna (in reality, it is probably well over 500), plus the time I have used it the last month. And in between, it say in a closet for over 2 years. I suppose it was inevitable. I have to say, it has been a work horse, pumping untold gallons of milk. It pumped more than 9 months worth of milk for Anna and 3 gallons so far for Lena.
I can get another pump through my insurance company, but it will take 6 weeks and they don't offer the Freestyle. The size and hands free are really important bc I will have to be pumping while I drive when I go back to work. (I do it safely, hooking up and unhooking only when the car is parked.) So I really need the Freestyle or something similar, which they don't offer. They have it at Target, but it is $75 cheaper on Amazon. So I think I will have to wait a couple of days for delivery from Amazon. I just hate spending this much money bc we don't really have it. Although it is $100 cheaper than it was 3 years ago, so I guess that's something to be happy about.
Can you use a hands free pumping bra? I'm sorry your pump broke! Are you sure its the motor and not the cord. OK t turns out that my medela didn't really die, the power cord just died. I'm going to order a new one so I have a backup pump.
'Scuse the bad typing, please. 'Breast is Best' but not when browsing the internet!
I wouldn't want to wear the pumping bra all day and I wouldn't be able to change bras in the car that many times a day. The cord is charging the pump, so it's not that. And I replaced the tubing already. Like I said, this thing has been a work horse, so I don't think I can complain.
I have the medela swing and a couple of weeks ago I got milk backed up into the motor. The next time I used it I got hardly any suction and I thought it was dead, but I looked up the troubleshooting online and found out how to flush it out. It was super easy to fix. I'd check the manual and see if there's anything you can do before assuming it's toast!
