After weeks of frustration, tears, fighting, anger, and depression Rowan was finally admitted into Children's Hospital today for complications related to inadequate diet. I just left there to pack my stuff so that I can be with him during the night. They had just put in a feeding tube through his nose and placed the IV in case hydration will be necessary.

I wanted to die when they put in the IV and it failed on his wrist and they had to do it again on his ankle.

Tomorrow begins the battery of testing to find out WHY he isn't eating or growing.

Thank you everyone :-) He is doing great with the tube and has taken 3oz at each feeding so far. Huge improvement over .5 to 2oz. I keep screwing up how to do the tube feeding but I'll figure it out. This afternoon is the swallow test. So far the GI team believes it all has to do with how he swallows. They showed me how to feed him on his side (elevated). He can sorta eat like that but is not very efficient. The GI team is trying to help me figure out a practical schedule to allow for continued pumping. They would like me to continue to supply breast milk but they know it is impacting quality of life for my family. It's just another thing to do that takes me away from my kids.

I am so sorry you have to go through this, but I am so glad that everything is being figured out. I will be praying that his eating problems are solved very soon so he can go back home!

I hope things start looking up soon. When Jocelyn was in the nicu, I was pumping, then they were fortifying all her feeds so she would gain weight. Turns out I had a really bad hind milk fore milk imbalance so she wasn't getting any hindmilk. I finally stopped pumping and had to put her on formula. She is gaining great now. I think the stress of trying to pump and then give bottles just made things worse in my case. I cry over not being able to nurse her but she is such a happy baby that I'm sure she forgives me. We also went through about 5 different nipples until I found one that Jocelyn can take well. I hope something works out for you. Feeding tubes are no fun.

So sorry to hear about your LO, but thank goodness he's improving so quickly! Hopefully the GI team figures out exactly what the problem is and can come up with a solution soon.

Lots of prayers coming your way!

I'm praying that they figure a solution for him. I remember when my daughter Hailey was in the hospital when she was only 3 months old. They had to give her an IV and it was so hard to watch and then after she had to have this board on her arm
