I went in for my post partum check up today. It went well. I am 7 pounds away from my pre-preggo weight. Of course the birth control question came up. I can't handle side effects from hormonal birth control, and the copper iud kind of makes me nervous. My midwife mentioned a diaphragm. She fitted me for it and wrote me a prescription to have one ordered. I know it's kind of an old fashioned contraceptive, but has anyone here used one? I never considered one before and have no idea if it's something that will work well for us.
I don't do well with hormonal bc when I took it. I was horrible about taking it(which looking back I always wondered why I was so lucky to be so bad about taking it but never have an "opps") In between me quitting pills and us starting trying I considered a diaphragm. I never ended up getting one but if I needed birth control I think that might be something I would seriously consider. The only thing mentioned to me was that they tend to be more effective in women who hadn't had a vaginal birth. This was due to shape changing and then afterwards some women not using it correctly. My ob mentioned that after I children I would need to be refitted and checked often(I'm not sure how much often was) to ensure the effectiveness.
