I have started weaning Morgan off of swaddling by wrapping her with one arm out. Tonight is the second night I have tried this. She woke up once last night but I attributed that to a stuffy nose, not being freer than usual. In a few days I'll wrap her with the other arm out and then transition to a sleep sack. I want to have her out of the swaddle before she starts rolling over, which is what is recommended.
Peyton loved it for the first couple of weeks, then she started breaking out. I just quit cold turkey, but because she hadn't been doing it for long, it worked for us. Do you swaddle at nap and night? You could try not swaddling at nap time and see how it goes. or start gradually swaddling loosely more and more each night.
