Ellianna is now requiring 20 ounces of expressed per day. I cannot pump this in addition to 3-4 nursings a day. She is 4 months 1 week. I am thinking I need to give a little formula or start cereal. Which would you do. I am able to express about 14 ounces a day in addition to nursing.

Hmm. I'm not sure. I wouldn't do cereal only because it's empty calories.

I agree. Their nutrition should come from breastmilk/formula in the first year. Cereal really has no nutritional value

I'm not sure either. We are going to skip cereal. I recently thought the babies were wanting more but they went through a growth spurt and now are starting to take more decent naps.

I would say formula when you need it and as much breast milk as you can continue to give her. That would be what I would do over cereal.

I agree with this. Cereal is not a substitute for milk, whether formula or breast. There is no harm in supplementing if you need to!

I agree with everyone else. I would supplement with formula. My kids aren't usually a fan of going from straight BM to straight formula taste so I used to mix up a big batch of BM and formula (enough for a whole day) and make their bottles out of that. I guess since the BM to formula ratio was so high, they liked the way that tasted a lot better than straight formula.

Ashley - our second would only take the bottle if I mixed 1/2 formula. He would nurse. He would not take 100% expressed in a bottle. Crazy kid I feel a little guilty about not doing 100% expressed for her. I know I can only do what I can.
