My parents have been out twice, so far, since Arthur has been born, and will be here for a third visit in three weeks. there is no set thing that we do when they're here. The first time, they helped us finish moving. The second time was Thanksgiving. And this time, we're all going to the beach, and my mom is going to come with Arthur and I to the library. My mother-in-law has never visited, and never will.
I work with my inlaws and the kids come to work with me. My parents prolly see the kids 3 or 4 times a month and they usually takes the kids to their house. There is nothing special we do. In the summer everyone does more like we will go to the zoo with my parents, shopping with mil or my mom, vacation for a week with the inlaws, etc.
My mom tries to come up about once a month. I think we are going down to see her and my older sisters for Easter though. My dad and stepmom and most of the rest of my siblings came when he was born and then we went there in August and for Christmas. We will see my stepmom and two of my younger sisters at Easter too, but other than that probably won't see them until the summer when we go out there. My in laws have come down here a few times and we went up to see them once since he was born. They'll be here next week to help when my husband has surgery.
DHs parents are deceased. My parents watch Elli while I work so they pretty much do everything with her. She had a nursery at their house. High hair, car seat. Etc. they play, grocery shop, take walks, etc. when she turns 18 months my Mom will take her to a child adult gym class as the YMCA. She will even do library hour. To be honest, my Mom is like a second Mother tony kids. At first that was hard to say. Fact is I work and Grammy is the best person in the world to watch them. She adores them. She follows my wishes but I give her pretty much free rein as I know she always has their best interest at heart.
The only grandparent that bothers to be around the kids is my MIL. She seems them 2-3 times a month (sometimes more). She is our go to babysitter if we need one. My dad only comes around on holidays and my mother doesn't bother to see them at all. Mikes dad lives up north so only sees them if we go up or if there is a holiday or birthday party.
