My son is a little over 6 months old. When he was circ. it looked a little weird to me. The skin started attacting its self back to the head of the penis. I have heard this is a common thing. But I kept asking the DR about it just so I would feel better. She told me it will detatch itself, and to just keep pulling the skin back at every diaper change. So this is what I did. Tonight while I pulled the skin back--the attached part came unattatched again. It looked a little red and irrated so I put some vasoline on it. He started acting a little bit fussy so I gave him a little bit of tylonol. So my question is, since it has detatched itself, is the red and irrated part normal???? Or so I maybe call the DR? My guess is that its normal. But I would like some input on other mommies with sons who have had this problem TIA!!

Jenny

My guess that it's normal but if your concerned, then call your dr. You don't want it to get infected.

My son had this problem...in fact I always had asked the Nurse pract. about it because his penis always pops in (his fat pops up over it) For months she said just to make sure we "popped" it out at diaper changes...then at his 15 month check I had a different nurse pract. and she said it was reattaching, so we had to do some tugging and prying for a few days. Ouch for him and sad for me to see him hurting! It got so red and swollen at one point we almost couldn't get it popped out. Our nurse pract. reccommended giving a bath first as that would soften/moisten the skin and make it easier to detach it. Our son was sore for about a week or so (we gave Tylenol at nap and bedtime). Best of luck...and if worried go back and see the doc!
