So - to make my panic even worse the doctor called me today and said my complete blood work came back and that I have a hypothyroid. I am seeing an endocrinologist on Friday- the day after my ultrasound. She had me start Synthroid tonight. Is there anyone else that has ever heard of this and pregnancy, or has gone through this?

I have it. They'll keep your levels in check with meds. Just more blood work. I got mine after my daughter was born - the autoimmune kind (Hashimotos). You might have it for life you might not. But meds are critical. You don't take them you'll do damage to your body and potentially mentally damage your child. So take them.

I'm ha****oxic (my body can't decide on whether it wants to be hypo or hyper, so swings between the two)

Actually not sure how it is going to affect the pregnancy, if at all, so I just have to wait and see.

Good luck at the endocrinologist.

I have Hypothyroidism. I found out I had it before I got pregnant with my daughter and she is a healthy 3year old. With her pregnancy and this one they will end up doing blood work until your levels are where they should be and then every monthly visit also. As for the medicine you just take them in the morning when you get up and don't eat anything for an hour after you take them. If you do eat something when you get up wait 2 hours after eating to take it. Also only take it with water. Any food or drink can make it not as effective. Hope this helps!!

Mostly it's iron that you can't take it with so take your prenatals at night. You can eat foods that's don't contain iron... For the most part I wait to eat... But some mornings I don't. So if you're feeling nauseous, you can eat some crackers and likely be fine. But she's right, some foods react to it. Mostly iron. But still...

I'm going to play it safe and not eat until like 2 hours after. I don't have morning sickness so I should be fine.

Hey ladies! Popping in from the May DDC.

I've had hypothyroidism since I was 13. My OB said that as long as medication is taken regularly, it is not a big deal during pregnancy. I'm also really glad they caught it early. I've always been told to take the medicine in the morning either 1 hour before you eat or 2-3 hours after eating. Also, make sure to get regular blood tests. Best of luck to you and your little one!

I have it as well, or at least borderline enough that they put me on the meds. My doctor told me that it helps prevent miscarriage (as far as maintaining the progesterone levels). But I have another question for all the ladies that are on meds.
Has anyone else developed a sinus problem with these meds?
About 2 weeks after they put me on these meds they increased my dosage and the next day I started having a little sinus congestion and then the next day it was in full force. I had to start using nasal sprays just to breath at night. I have never had this issue before and now it seems like I have some kind of allergy issue because Allegra-D is the only thing that helps with the congestion. Well now that I am pregnant I do not want to keep taking it and I am trying to suffer through it.
Another weird coincidence is that my Grandmother had the same dosage and thyroid issue and also developed sinus issues (although nobody relates the two).
I am just miserable.....between the sneezing and blowing of the nose I feel like I am going to give myself a hernia!
So anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else has any side effects from their meds.

I am not currently on meds (dormant illness, woohoo) but it sounds like a mild allergic reaction to me. You might want to ring your doctor and see if they want to try something else for you.

Kiam,
I have talked to the doctor and two pharmasists about it and they all have looked at me like am crazy. I looked it up on the internet and the synthroid has a plant material used in it and has (on rare occasions) cause allergies. Well I talked to the doctor about this as well and had them put me on the meds that have no plane material in it. Even after that switch it is still an issue.
