every site has a different definition of 2nd trimester. when do you consider the start of 2nd tri? i know the chances of m/c drop dramatically at 12 weeks, which is why most people share the news at that point. but if you divide 40 by 3, you get over 13 weeks per trimester.

12 weeks though for miscarriage rates just seeing a good heartbeat greatly decreases your chance of miscarrying.

If im understanding your question right, I believe the 1st tri ends at the last day of 12 weeks and 2nd tri at 13 weeks exactly?? not sure but i say once you hit 12 weeks according to whatever your EDD is go by that cus everything is so guess-timated anyways....a few days here there isnt going to change alot..

very true, but my last baby had a HB and yet i m/c at 10 weeks. i'm having the 12 week nuchal scan at 12w1d, so if all looks good, i think i'll consider it safe to announce then!

I always count the beginning of 14 weeks as the start of my second trimester.

Does 40 weeks include the 2 weeks your not really pregnant? If it does then divide 3 by 38 (fetus age is 38 weeks at full-term then, right?) so you get 12.6!

yes it does! but then other pregnancy sites say the end of 12 weeks, so starting at 13 weeks exactly.

But then you'd have to add 2 weeks to offset the first two... so fetus age of 12.6 weeks but gestational age (the weeks we usually say) would be 14.6.

My hospital classes it as 12 weeks. As in your 13th week of pregnancy.
