HI All,

so we had our 20 week US today and I though all was going good the Baby would not show his Heart so we knew we had to go back for that and I was excited to get to see an extra sneak peak of baby. But then I had my Dr apt right after that and she said that the US showed that our Baby Boy has fetal echogenic bowel. Now I am waiting to hear from the High risk OB on when I can go in for a US, crazy how things change I really did not think anything was wrong with him. After how bad my Morning sickness has been and the Fact I had to do a GB test today for sugar in my pee. I was really thinking Baby Had to be ok as I am having a hard time. I am so glad that my Husband was with me as it was nice to have him hear what the doctor had to say.

She at least told us she is not too worried as out First trimester scan came back with our risk of downs being 1:10000+, so that leaves it could be Cystic fibrosis and that scares the hell out of me. I am hoping it is nothing as she said a lot of cases can go away on their own and she just wants us to see the high Risk OB to see what they have to say.

just wondering if any one is in the same boat as me with having a baby with fetal echogenic bowel?

I honestly had no idea what it was until I googled it. For those curious I guess the bowel "lights up" a different way on the u/s. But this is what I saw, so hopefully it's nothing for your LO!

"The echogenicity of the fetal bowel is assessed during second trimester obstetrical ultrasound examination because increased echogenicity is a marker for several fetal disorders. However, most cases have no underlying abnormality and have normal outcomes."

Aw nothing really prepares you for that call from the OB... But it does sound like this could have a really positive outcome! Try to be hopeful!

No one wants bad news or possibly bad news at the anatomy scan. So sorry. I'm glad it sounds like there's a very good chance that it will turn out to be a non-issue and baby will be perfectly healthy.
