3 weeks today, though they need to stay in there as long as possible. I'm subconsciously preparing myself for having babies anytime after 30 weeks though. Oh man that's not very far away.

2 weeks and 5 days until 24 weeks!

When I was pregnant with DS2 I looked up as much info about viability as I could take because of the issues I started having at 19 weeks. Some hospitals will try to resuscitate as early as 23 weeks. The chart I found, to answer bklynfinest77's question says, 23 weeks is 10-35%, 24 weeks is 40-70%, 25 weeks, 50-80%, 26 weeks 80-90%.

That being said I hope all of our babies are born after term, and all of the twins born at term or later for twin births!

My husband works for a neonatal/peds helicopter team that flies statewide to retrieve preemies and transport them here. Our children's hospital and NICU ranks among the top in the nation. My sister has worked in that same NICU for eons.

I asked my husband not long ago about what the exact cut-off for the decision to resuscitate in case we have a pre-term baby. His answer to me was that there really is no definite. They look at the infant and not numbers. They see how they respond. They don't simply say, "this is a 22 weeker and we're not doing anything".

As far as NICU goes, that's another one of those great mysteries as well. It's a treating, waiting, and praying game. There are never clear answers. They have babies born at 22 weeks that end up doing better than ones born at 30 weeks. Every case is individual and is treated as such.

I am amazed at the stories I hear from my husband and sister. It sure has helped me rule out all the places I would not have our child at. The stories of the babies from home births gone wrong that end up dying in their unit (which you never read about) squashed any thoughts of that immediately.

I have about 4 1/2 weeks to go. (I'll be 20 weeks on Tuesday.) I am really hoping to make it to at least 38 weeks this time around. Even with my daughter being born at 36 weeks (so close to full term!), there were some minor complications. I totally do the same thing as you though, slightly celebrating when I reach the 24 week mark of viability. I really hope that everyone in this ddc makes it to full term. Wouldn't that be amazing?
