Apparently my body forgot how to be pregnant after DS1 was born. I started having fairly bad cramps on Tuesday evening and all of Wednesday. Went to the doctor and they did the fFN test. My cervix was closed and the lab screwed the test up. I had a ton last night and this morning and the ones today my uterus started tightening more during the cramping and I started feeling pressure during them. I went back in they did another test since it had been more than 24 hours and then she checked me again and said that it was different than yesterday but still closed in the middle. She was personally taking the test to the lab at the hospital and would call me. Well she called an hour ago and the fFN is positive. While I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything since DS2 wasn't born until 7 weeks after my positive fFN with him but it still makes me nervous. They started me on nifedipine and are having me get a steroid shot tomorrow morning and then the second one Saturday morning. I have a cervical length ultrasound scheduled for Tuesday morning and I'm on modified bed rest/pelvic rest until then. hopefully my cervix is still within normal range on Tuesday.

Oh how scary! Baby Olivia: do not pass go, do not collect $200...it's not time yet! Plus, doesn't she know that our LO's need to have birthdays that are 1 day apart just like our August "babies?" I pray that whatever the outcome it is good and she arrives healthy. Are they mentioning anything else will help, such as bedrest?

She said that since my cervix was at 3.2cm 2 weeks ago that modified bed rest/pelvic rest was all she was going to require for now but that it could change to full bed rest on Tuesday if my cervix had shortened or if I start having more contractions. She also told me that if they get worse to go straight to L&D and not even call since there's always at least one OB there and that they'd call her from there.

Fetal fibronectin. It's a protein that acts like glue and attaches the amniotic sac to te uterine wall. When you leak that protein you are at a higher risk for preterm labor.

Oh no! I hope things level out -- keep on baking, little Olivia!

Also, my like is for explaining what fFN is, not for what fFN is...just to be clear.

<3 You are in my thoughts! <3

Thanks ladies! I've had both steroid shots now but hopefully we won't have to find out how well they work and she'll hang on until after I reach term like her brother did!

I m so sorry. How does bed-rest effect you? Are your cramps better now or is it hard to rest?

It's hard to rest with a 3 1/2 year old and a 22 month old. My oldest understands when I tell him I have to lay on the couch to help sissy or that I need to lay down because my tummy hurts and it helps sissy. My 22 month old is having a hard time with me telling him I can't hold him and I can't sit on the floor and play all day like I did before. My cramps which they said are contractions (and now I can feel the tightening more with them) are a little bit better with the nifedipine but are still there. It takes the edge off though and I'm sure helps take some away. I can really tell when it's almost time for my next dose though because the intensity picks up. I had that same problem when I was on it with DS2 as well though.
