This has probably already been discussed, but I'm looking for input on audio baby monitors. This is the first time we will have a newborn in a big house; our other houses were all *tiny*, so I didn't need a monitor to hear them stirring/crying I don't need anything super fancy, just something I can carry around or keep in the kitchen while baby is napping in my bedroom. Any suggestions??

OOh yeah...you will need it for sure. we have 2 different ones set up in different areas of the house. One is Sony and its great!! Great range and picks up the little sounds easily and clearly. and the other one is a Tommee one.

I would suggest also getting one that you can also respond back. intercom style.

I would recommend the summer brand! We've had ours for 3 years and still love it! It's video too but if you just want audio I'm sure that brand has those!

We got this one:
VTech Communications Safe & Sound Digital Audio Monitor with two Parent Units

on the recommendation of the 2013 Baby Bargains book.

I like the summer brand as well .. I have a video one only cause I had a bad experience with my oldest choking when he is was a baby so I like keeping an eye on the baby at all times

What is the advantage of the intercom style? I can't think of a time that would be needed... Fill me in!

We just had one of the common brands you'd find at target or walmart.. not intercom just a one way listening thing. They were soo nice because you can hear the tiniest of stirring and get to them before it's full fledged crying So helpful if you need to get stuff done around the house or the garden, etc.
I just bought some second hand ones for $10.. hopefully they do the trick!
