So I've been in touch with a lactation consultant this week. She's been helping me a lot. She told me about something new today. I woke up with super painful, swollen breasts. It didn't go away even after pumping. She toxld me to soak my breasts in warm water, massage them all over, and hand express into the water. Holy cow the relief! I found sore spits I didn't know I had. More amazing, it made it possible for me to get in Breña's mouth far enough for a good latch. I didn't know you could be too full for good latches.

She said to do this before every feeding.
Urchin and MeggysMommy like this.

I've heard engorgement can cause latch problems so I'm glad this is helping you.

I had problems with engorgement with Serenity. Expressing manually into a towel soaked with hot water did the trick for me half the time.

I think that was a huge problem for us the first few days. It has sure gotten easier now that I know to do this.

Very good advice! I think T's latching issues are often because of being engorged.
