I am going around and around in circles with government paperwork and I am sick of it.
In a nutshell, we are entitled to a few things, government paid parental leave for me (separate to the one my work offers), paid partners leave for DH and a family tax benefit (FTBA), plus we have to add Audrey onto our public health care card.
DH filled out the partners leave form and I filled out the combined form for parental leave, FTBA and public health, provided by the hospital with a proof of birth on the back.
They lost my form, but they received it because it was used to confirm DH's partner's leave payments and he has received them, but after they did that they lost it before it could be processed, so they sent me out a secondary form (over 100 pages, most of the questions were repeated, I had to write down my gross income for the prior financial year FOUR times) which I filled in again and sent to them, but of course the secondary form doesn't have Audrey's proof of birth signed by the hospital, so they won't process it until I photocopy her birth certificate and send it to them, even though they have to have her birth on record because DH's leave payments were approved.
I'm most annoyed about the public health one, at current we can claim any treatments she has to have under my name, but after she turns one month old we can't do that... so on Tuesday. According to my Mum you used to just go into any branch and say "Hi, here's my card, here's my baby's birth certificate, add them on please" and they would do it on the spot, give you a temporary card and your new card would be posted to you. I hate that it goes through these forms now, argh.
(Also, you just know that because of the way that bad luck works, if she is going to get sick, it will be on Wednesday this week).

I was initially concerned about all of the paperwork but was pleasantly surprised at how smoothly it has gone. I applied for unemployment insurance when I left on my maternity leave so that was already done (my HR department sent the paperwork over to them, all I had to do was register online and provide information for them to do a direct deposit).
Then when I gave birth, the hospital gave me a form to fill out for them to send to my government health care plan to order a card for him. As far as his birth certificate, social insurance number, and universal child care benefit, all I had to do was go online where they let you apply for all of it on the same site. After a few clicks of the mouse it was all done. I've already received his birth certificate and should be receiving the rest in the next few weeks.
I have a friend who works in centrelink and she told me it is centrelinks responsibility to find your form. Not for you to fill in another.
