Any of you who have been down the reflux road, how long did it take for the medication to make a noticeable difference?

We are about two weeks in with zantac and while spit up is almost non existent, she is still having the mysterious screaming sessions that seem linked only.to bowel movements. After the 8 hour screaming session I totally gave up hope. The zantac put some wind under my wings but now I'm at a loss again.

I'm not sure what to tell you. However, Adelyn was the same way and we found out it was because of the formula she was taking. The first one would upset her stomach so we tried another brand. This one, much like you described, caused her to spit up a lot more and have screaming fits that would last anywhere from 2-7 hours. Luckily I talked to my doctor about it and she thought it might be the lactose in the formula. She's not completely lactose intolerant but she can't handle a lot of it. So we changed her milk again and she's been on that for a week. No more spit ups and no more screaming sessions. I have finally seen a small light though I'm not saying everything is perfectly fine until she's been on this formula a little longer.

Anyway, maybe talk to a doctor? Maybe they can give you some advice on what might be upsetting her? And hope she feels better soon!

T is on reflux meds...and while he still spits up a TON, he is a lot less fussy. We tried pulling him off because the amount coming out was still significant, but he definitely was more agitated. I agree with Brittany...maybe take her in and see if they can find a different issue. **Hugs**

We've been to three doctors, two of which insisted she was perfectly fine, said it was normal, it was just colic, I just *think* it is associated with her bowel movements, I just have to hold her and rock her and swaddled her and let her cry, it is no big deal. Basically that I have new mommy syndrome is what they were saying. Thankfully her doctor finally saw her (the nurses kept running defense and wouldn't give me an appointment for it) and she listened. She started the zantac and got us referred to a gastrointerologist next month.

zantac for the bowel movements? huh? the twins are on zantac and they no longer cry after & during feeds, i can tell when I forget to give them the zantac.

however, Layla is VERY sensitive to gas and poop, she cries a lot. she finally learned how to poop at 2 months and only cires a little. shes still wails when she farts. maybe your LO is still figuring out how to poop? i hope the GI dr can help though!

Lurking...

Isabel is on Zantac. I would say within a few days we saw a MILD difference--as in, still really suffering, but not spending an hour nearly drowning on reflux that didn't come all the way up.

She quickly outgrew the dosing, though.

It doesn't really help the spit up so much as helps with the pain, from what my pedi said, but I think because Isabel isn't freezing up in pain that helps it come all the way up instead of her choking on it. So for us, it's good enough.

If Zantac doesn't work I think you can try other things, too.

good luck. Sorry you have to deal with this

Zantac for reflux - we were hoping that reflux might be causing her issues (straining to poop causing stomach contents to rise and acid to burn her). Just elimination strategy, basically.
