The Cuttlebug is my personal favourite. It comes packaged with a spacer block, two cutting pads, and another thin die cutting pad (to be used with non-Cuttlebug dies). It’s simple to assemble. The only thing you have to do is screw on the crank handle. Once you’ve got your Cuttlebug put togehter, embossing is easy as pie. You can buy Cuttlebug embossing folders at your local craft store for approximately $5-6 each. If you are purchasing a combo pack of 2 folders which typically includes an embossing folder and a die cut folder, it is more. There are so many different ones to choose from. They even have Disney! When you’re ready to start, all you have to do is put a piece of paper inside the embossing folder, sandwich the folder between the cutting pads, and turn the handle. It rolls itself through the machine, and your paper is embossed. So simple.
PROS: Embosses and cuts, portable, lightweight, space saver, affordable, accepts other companies dies, easy to use, cute, company makes some great die cuts and embossing products.
CONS: Requires a bit of elbow grease, some manufacturing problems with mats, handles and some dies but Provo Craft was quick to fix!
To expand on the cons a little bit - overuse of the cuttlebug can cause the cutting pads to bend. This is normal, but make sure you rotate the pads and turn them over each time you send them through the Cuttlebug. Also, some customers complained that the cutting mats were getting cracked and broken. Provo Craft was on top of it and sent replacements to many customers, and since then I think the problem has been resolved.
