DH suddenly got a new job and we moved across the state before we could sell our condo. Luckily his parents have a pretty big house in the area with extra rooms that we can use until our condo sells and we can get a new house. The problem is, we really have NO space for our own things. MIL said it wouldn't be a problem for us to move our things in, but then she gets territorial. I have a tiny corner and small desk to keep my crafting supplies when I am used to a whole room. Does anyone have any suggestions for saving space and neatly organizing paper, pencils, stickers, tools, books, photos, stamps, ink, etc? I have the works. Any ideas are appreciated!

I am thinking about going to office max and buying some of the in/out boxes they have but those aren't big enough for a lot of my paper. I am also willing to put some of it "away" in bins, and just have the necessities out. I have seen the little totes with compartments for all of the tools, but they are pricey. The same goes with the ink organizers from stampin up and the paper organizers from craft stores. It all just seems like it is SO costly, and I'm looking for something a little more budget friendly. Right now everything is in shoeboxes and plastic bins, which is so uninspiring

I got one of those seven drawer Sterlite craft containers and it's perfect for my 12x12 paper. I also have two little containers for my brads, glues and other embellishments. Then I have another cart that has four small drawers and two large drawers, similar to the seven drawer container (link below). There is also some three drawer units that I want to get that are just like the seven drawer, but they don't close. I only have my dining room to work in and DH hates to see a mess. If I can, I will try and take some pics later.

Here are the links to what I have:

I have both of those too. I also have 2 3-drawer units also. And 2 smaller 3 drawer units that I took the wheels off of them all so they wouldn't roll.

I have those carts to. I took my wheels off them and placed them on top of my work space - which used to be my kitchen table. Here's a pic of my work station.

I grabbed a corner and part of a wall by the staircase in our basement and so far this works for me. I'd love to have more space, and maybe one of these days I'll get that. LOL! I basically went up - I added a shelf over the 2 carts, then used 2 milk crates with another shelf on top of those. I also label everything to make it easier to find what I'm looking far. I don't know if you can see it well to the side but I have a peg board hanging up and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. DH had that suggestion & was a sweetie in hanging in the concrete wall for me. I have my scissors, hole punches, stickers, stencils - all sorts of things hanging up. I have a small table with a shelf on the bottom to the left side of the table making it a L shaped work station and have my 8 1/2 X 11 paper organized on the shelf in 2 portable file boxes similar to these boxes. I also have another standing height table off to the side and use that for my cuttlebug & embossing area and had DH build a shelf overhead. I have the dies/embossing folders and my embosser & powders organized in clear shoe boxes. Here's a pic of that part.

Basically I just label everything and try to keep it organized. I won't show you pics of what it looks like right now. LOL! It's a mess and I just said to DH that I have to clean it up before I can even scrap this weekend. I'm sure you'll figure out a way that works best for you. Good luck on DH's new job & I hope your condo sells quickly!

I just bought the 7 drawer one from Target and love it! They only had 2 left in my Target adnif the 2nd one wasn't busted, I'd have bought them both! I might need to check another Target.

BeckyM - I'm loving your idea for putting them on the table. I'm in the process of getting a spot in the basement for my craft stuff and low and behold...I have 3 tables to choose from. (People seem to think I need kitchen tables and sadly, I can't say no). I might have to copy your set up if you don't mind!

Copy away. I don't mind at all! I had to go to 2 different Targets to get those carts to - for the same reason. LOL!

That is great. Thanks! I will look at target for the seven drawer unit; that would be perfect. The small ones too. Thanks for the pictures Becky; I might steal some of the ideas

I think I've got something! I went to Target, and they did have those 12x12 storage drawers, but I ended up getting a different one. It has two of the narrower drawers on top so that I can store papers, and one deep one on the bottom for my stamps. Then I bought a small desktop set of drawers (the three tiny ones) for tools and ink. Stickers, embellishments, etc. are in shoe boxes on the shelf underneath the desk. I also got a hanging file unit that stores 12x12 so I can keep pages that I am working on in there. It's coming together!

The "Itso" collection at Target (I think it's a closet organizer system) is big enough to store 12x12 so I hope to get that someday to set up a space in my basement that's just for me!

Has anyone seen those?

I got the deal of the day!

Today I went in search for something to store all of my stuff in because it's taken over my dining room table and dining room and dh (and me too) had had enough! I almost took a picture to show you ladies the mess I made lastnight lol. I had paper strewn all over the dining room floor, chairs and it extended out into the livingroom.

We won't have a Target til 2010, so I'm stuck with what we've got on island unless I order it from someone who'll ship it here reasonably/free. I looked at storage while I was at Target on the mainland 2 weeks ago and found a few units I wanted, but none I could take home.

My first stop was a store that sells household organizational stuff. Found a scrapbooking storage unit that are like 5 drawers of 12x12 boxes that are about an inch high that slide out and were rather nice. They wanted $80 geezus! I figured I'd get one of those sets of big plastic drawers that are big enough for tons of junk if I was going to spend that much. The same store had a set of 5 for $80 that were fairly sturdy and not cheap plastic. We next went to Kmart across the street and their plastic drawers were all cracked or totally broken (and on sale! lol). Ended up at Home Depot and saw a set of 4 for $60 (it's this one: Sterilite 4-drawer cabinet) that was not only sturdier, but the drawers had wheels to help them slide in and out and it's grey so no one can see my mess inside rofl. Apparently it's for garages, but as long as it holds my stuff, I'm happy. When I went to check out, it rang up at $3. Yep, $3. I thought they weren't going to let me walk out with it at that price, but the supervisor noted the price mistake and told the cashier to honor the price! WOOO! It's not exactly ideal for scrapbooking, but it holds all of my junk; I seperated it into 4 sections (all accessories/embellishments, hoilday paper, baby paper, solid and misc papers, and photos/albums) and I can put my cricut on top w/ the cart boxes and nothing looks messy and we can now eat at the table again. I'm so terribly stoked atm. lol

OMG!!! You know what that means? That means you can take all the money you were GONNA spend on the unit and get more scrapbook supplies LOL That is totally how I would justify it, and DH usually bites for it.

That is a great deal, and some nice looking drawers! I'm jealous!
