Can you have the cricut make a shape and then cut a shape within that shape? For example, could I cut a tag, and in the same cut have it cut out a flower or letters in that tag? I can't seem to center it right, and it seems to me like there is a function that automatically does this but I can't figure it out

It depends on the cartridge but the way it should work is set the size to what you want, press the tag function key and make sure its lit, press the image you want cut on the tag, and press cut.

If its still not working check the book that came with the cartridge and make sure the function is available.

hth!

I've been able to cut a shape within but it's by using my best judgement on how to place it, etc. I really should read the books that came with the machine and carts huh?

It comes with a book??

When i made the tags fgor one of the Christmas LO's I did, I cut out the tags but then made a templet to practice on to get the lettering in the right spot. I know I read in my book there was a way to do it but I didn't feel like looking it up at the time

I tried this too, but I couldn't get it quite centered.

This is one of the things I use the Design Studio for. You can cut one thing exactly where you want inside another thing and see it's placement on the paper before cutting it.

Yes, that would definitely make it easier. I have to cool it with my spending for a while though, so I am not sure when I'll buy it. I'm going to ask for it for my birthday, maybe. MIL mentioned getting it for me, but I hope she doesn't pay full price. I've seen it online for less than half what it costs from Provo or Michaels.
