I keep hearing this over and over again. Is there truth to this and what is the reason? I'm wondering because DH's grandmother wants us to come down to NC again this year for her birthday which is conveniently 3 days before my due date... it doesn't take a genius to know that its slightly senseless to be 8 hours from home this far into a pregnancy.

So I was thinking maybe a week or 2 earlier? Or even after baby arrives?

Thoughts?

Statistically, yes! However, my first was born at 36 weeks, my 2nd at 35 weeks, and my last at 37 weeks. I have an "incompetent cervix" diagnosis. It makes my labors really fast, but getting to term isn't usually easy for me.

I hope this baby bakes a little longer in there. My little sister's wedding is July 21st. I'm due August 3rd. I should be fine.. but its really close. Hopefully it isn't early if anything..

All of my babies were about a week or even two early (the twins being the exception), even my first. However, most of the first-time moms I know IRL do go at least to their due date if not beyond.

VERY cautiously expecting after two losses early 2013. Hoping and praying my Valentine's Day due date baby sticks this time.

Mine was induced a day after her EDD even after docs telling me she would come early (I had preterm labor/bedrest with her). She stayed put #2 and #3 came early and then #4 came 3 days late.

With my daughter I had a scheduled c-section 6 days before her due date. It turns out that when I went to the hospital that morning, I was actually in labor and having real contractions 5 mins apart (thought they were braxton hicks lol). In knowing that, she would have been here before her due date, so wouldn't have been a late baby if we could have had a normal vaginal birth.

My first was 5 days past her due date and my second was 2.5 weeks past hers. So I think that this one will be late too. But some first time moms can go early too. I personally don't like to go more than a couple hours from home starting about 2 weeks before my due date.

Oh and I wouldn't be going if I was still pregnant. Not only are you risking going into labor, but being THAT pregnant and sitting in a car will not make for a very happy pregnant woman. I wouldn't make any commitment either way until you know, maybe baby will come early and then you can go, but depends on you're feeling afterwards too. I wouldn't have wanted to travel that long after having my first. The others I could have but their births were a lot easier.

Statistically, yes, I think first babies generally go past their due date, especially if you controlled for inductions. Mine were both born around 39 weeks.

But regardless, I wouldn't travel that far that close to your due date either way. I doubt your doctor or midwife would be supportive of it either if you were still pregnant. Or, like the poster said above, I wouldn't want to travel that far with a days or week old baby if they came early. I think I'd make sure no one has any expectations on you.

Hey there, popping in from the June DDC. My first was three weeks early. I don't really think there is any rhyme or reason to why some babies come early and some come late, whether it be 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.

But I would not head out of town past my 8th month personally. good luck, hope you figure out what's best

Out of all 10 babies I have only had one come early, and that was 38w 5d, but was due to the placenta pulling away.
All of mine have been late, anywhere from 4 days to 2 weeks.

my first was 8 days late.

Most of the time in my experience, first time moms do go past their due date. but of course its not a sure thing
