The homebirths in my area run about $2,400-4,000. Some of them go through insurance but even so, they want the $2,400-4,000 separately. DH says we really can't swing that. My last birth was around $1,000 total so he wants something $1,500 or less. It looks like I'll be delivering at one of our birth centers which is still around 45 minutes away.
That stinks! It sucks that insurance doesn't cover it--it's certainly cheaper than a hospital birth/hospital birth center Here, the freestanding birth center/home birth midwives charge about $4000. That includes everything (prenatal visits, the birth, an ultrasound at 20 weeks, postpartum care, 6 week pap smear, nutritional counseling, etc. If your insurances covers it, they charge nothing--they don't make you pay even if insurance covers here. that is really bizarre it works that way where you are Sorry hon

Yeah, hospital births are way more but thankfully they go through my insurance so it ends up being a lot cheaper. My out-of-pocket is $1500 so I don't pay more than that. I kind of want to keep trying to find someone but surprisingly despite the fact that I'm in a big city, there aren't many homebirth options!! We have two birth centers and 2 homebirth midwives, another 2 I think shut down.
