I cant find a good answer online anywhere... WHEN do you use the heart rate to determine? Since it starts slow then speeds up then goes back down, do you have to wait til you're further along? Or just go by an average of the readings orrrr....?

The thing with this is it's proven not to be true. The only time the female on average has a higher rate than the male on average is DURING labor and after birth. Early on, it means so little. I wish it meant sometime, because my baby's heartbeat was 179 which would mean girl! (what I want!) but I still have a feeling I'm having a boy. If you google to see if it was right for other people, you'll see it's all over the place. But I'd say if you want to go on this guess for fun, wait until around week 12.

Both times my kiddos heart rates were always in the 120's and 130's. which should mean two boys but I have one boy and one girl

I have read that before about it only being true during labour. A girls heart rate will be faster during labour than it was during pregnancy. I never paid attention to what the heart rates were during labour so I don't know if that was true with my daughter or not

My first was 175 almost the whole time and she's a girl. My second was 150's the whole time and she's a girl I had a dream last night that this baby's hb was 126

There is no good time because it is never reliable :/ Which sucks, I prefer my Old Wive's Tales to not have such a 100% false rating. Because as you said, it starts slow and picks up, eventually all heart rates have ranged from 90-150 at the least. They do say that it is TRUE after birth, that female babies have a higher heart rate.

Yeh i agree, it could go either way with this. My kids did not fall under the standard predictions of gender based on heartrate at all but its all in good fun

It it definitely not a reliable way to determine, but all SIX of my HBs told me the gender accurately. All my girls were in the 160's to high 170s and both my boys were in the 130 to 150 range! Even my midwife suggested girl last time due to heartrate...that was at 20 weeks before my ultrasound...she was correct!
